TDMs can be used for anyone interested in the game and/or testing out a new muse.

Test Drive samples are encouraged to be used for your application sample, though they are NOT a requirement.

Feel free to use one prompt, multiple prompts or make up your own!

These threads can be considered game canon upon game opening if you so choose.

Telepathy and magic can be used at any point in time on the TDM, from Prompt A to your wildcard prompt. A specific prompt exists, however, that makes sure all characters have an equal chance to use this mechanic within the TDM. You're encouraged to have characters use telepathy and their magic accidentally or even purposefully on any TDM prompt.

If you aren't set on your character's power yet or want to try out a few, you're still able to use the test drive. Maybe your character is a late bloomer and hasn't fully unlocked their intuitive drive yet. In the case of multiple powers, only prompts that contain the power you choose for your application will count as potential game canon threads.

While only one character can be apped or reserved during a cycle, feel free to post with more than one character if you like! This is for those who are uncertain of their first choice or who would like to try out different characters within the setting.

IMPORTANT: This world is low-frequency. No canon powers or abilities are allowed! Also check out the setting information for more info about what the hub island looks like and what can be found there.

ou blink and that's all it takes. At first, the picture doesn't come in clear, like you're waiting for a screen to fully load -- more aptly, it's like you're waiting for a camera to focus so you can find image clarity. Before you happened to rapidly close your eyes and open them, your life was normal...well, normal for you, anyway. Fighting an alien, making a quesadilla, dying. And then that blurry picture suddenly takes over. There's a lot to take in here -- you feel weird, your surroundings are weird. Everything is just weird. For starters, there's that new piece of jewelery inserted in the space above your chest. That certainly wasn't there before you opened your eyes. A ▢ THus hub island is getting pretty chilly, which means the forest that contains the large, dinner-plate sized spiders is very still and quiet. No spiders are out and about to jump your characters -- but they are underground, lying in wait. Sometimes the best way for characters to get accustomed to their magic is to trigger their fight or flight response. One wrong step in the forest and they'll find their foot through a spider's brushy trapdoor or putting a little too much pressure on it for their liking. Are you ready to see what your character is made of? B ▢ The recent surge of rain has caused a few marshy areas, be it in the forest or a hilly landscape. Some swampy ground is more aggravating than treacherous, but the opposite is also true. Your character is strolling along, trying to find their way and all of a sudden SCHLUMP! Their leg is sunk into the ground up to their nether regions. Struggle, and the rest of them might fall in too...! C ▢ While your character is trying to figure out where the fuck they are, they may come across something scuttling about through the forest. Don't panic -- it's simply a scanner pod doing its due diligence and scouting for resources...oh! And it just happened upon something interesting: your character! This scanner robot is curious to investigate and record your data. Is your character going to trust them to do their job, or will they be suspicious of this looming machine?

Here's the part where they finally locate something of use: the base camp. The murky, weathered location is a little distressed, and resource gathering is making coven members sparse. However, that doesn't mean helpful answers aren't only a step away. D ▢ One thing of note is that as they get closer to the base camp, characters will feel more and more of that strong, telepathic surge. Qri's caravan is sitting in the middle of the open area, which may explain the stronger magical signals. Traveling closer to this object, in particular, will cause that unfamiliar pang of intuition to feel that much stronger -- which also explains why their own thoughts are being broadcast recklessly to everyone else on the island. E ▢ Speaking of Qri's caravan, the floating "vehicle" currently has its trap door, hammerspace portal open. It's quite large and inviting, honestly. Want to get closer to Qri? Or maybe just take shelter from the few sprinkles that are still falling from the sky? Crawl on in! Just be warned: the door will close right behind your character, and that thing gets claustrophobic after a while. F ▢ Finally, since Brie is aware that a new world is approaching, she's gotten a little more weapon-obsessed. There are an assortment of weapons just laying all over the place, from swords to spears, from slingshots to...god, what even is that thing your character has never seen before. Whether they're curious about something and like to touch things that don't belong to them or Brie is trying to outfit them with a weapon that works for them, your character is now weaponized. What do??? G ▢ Wildcard prompt. Go nuts and utilize your own creativity within the setting. This can mean striking out on your own or utilizing a certain location in a different way. The world is your oyster!

Sinking Feeling

[Alright, it’s one thing to end up in some weird place out of nowhere, but it’s another to end up there with another weird gem placed over the one already on his chest. He’s honestly offended by this. One gem was a statement, but two? He doesn’t wear his cruxis crystal and expshere at the same time? And now the latter is gone and replaced with this? This doesn’t even look like a real gem.

So, he’s walking around, trying to figure this thing out all the while looking into where he is, and where he can go, when—]

What the— [His foot sinks straight through the dirt, and in his immediate attempt to try and yank it back out, he stumbles and slips further, right up to his waist. His other leg is knee deep now, too, and the more he seems to move, the more the marsh seems to pull at him.]

Oh, come on! [This is just Great. He pauses his movement to avoid making it any worse, looking up and around to try and spot someone.] Hey! Is anybody out there?!

Bath House

[After that little incident, the first thing Zelos does is go to clean off. He takes his own shower and washes up, but the moment he hears there’s a bath house, he’s heading that way to check it out. In only a towel, he’ll be sliding into each of the four open rooms to see which has the most hunnies!! Don’t be surprised if he moves on up to any girls with a “hey there, cutie pie!” and the like. It’s friendly, testing the water, so to speak.

Annnnd any guys get a wave off like he’s not interested, but if guys are all that he can find, he’ll sink into the water with a defeated sigh. Like, five feet away.

Regardless of how things end up, he’ll be enjoying himself shortly.]

[Of course, after hearing about all the spiders and such, of course he wants to make sure he’s well equipped. He’s checking out swords and daggers for himself when he spots someone else at the table who… doesn’t seem like they belong there at all. A kid, or someone clumsy, or anything out of place get a raised eyebrow from him as he approaches.]

Uhhh, hey, no offense, but are you lost or something? You should leave things like this to the big guys like me, heheh. [“Big guys”... he’s a 5’10” ginger pretty boy, but sure.]

[Giant spiders aren’t new to him and he’s the kind of person who is always on alert around him just due to his upbringing and training. Being speedy on his feet is a result of natural training, and well, he’s aware that his orbment is useless here so it’s not granting him the additional speed he’s used to. Still, it’s not a big deal as his intention is to just get some training in. However, with that intention, he accidentally tries to ‘tap’ into the orbment’s dormant power only, well, to find himself back in the base camp area and not in the forest.

Did… he teleport or use some weird time elemental shenanigans? He’s not sure, but it’s weird and it’s not something he’s happy about even though he should have expected a new ‘power’ of some sort…]

I guess this will take some time to get used to.

[Yeah, scanner pods and robots are not a thing that Joshua likes in the least. They remind him too much of archaisms back home and some of those do some weird scanning ability, too. He takes a moment to poke the scanner with one of his dual blades almost as if to test its hostility. Every archaism he’s encountered back home has been hostile so he’s pretty sure this one isn’t too much different.

Still, a different place means perhaps different rules for robots and the such.]

Are you just the kind of archaism that scans its enemy, or something entirely different?

[Maybe he’s trying to see if it will talk back, or something of the like.]

[Joshua’s not too keen on the strong telepathic surges at all and it almost seems like his mind is guarded and there’s hardly ever a peep from him telepathically. No accidental thoughts being transmitted or anything like that. It might seem odd or maybe one could tell that perhaps he’s had… well, a sort of run-in with things invading his mind before which is why there’s not a single telepathic peep from him. That for as often as he’s polite to others and is always smiling to everyone, he’s very mentally guarded. And he believes for good reason, especially in a new place like this.]

[Except the fact that weapons may make him a little more unguarded. He loves studying all sorts of weapons and seems to be familiar with a lot of them, not only by sight but also by the way he handles them. Especially things like various bombs and smoke screens, small throwing knives, and things that maybe one would think someone who’s familiar with guerilla warfare and reconnaissance would be familiar with.

Still, he takes the chance to check out everything he can, especially the more odd weapons.]

I’ve never seen anything like this. I wonder how one is supposed to wield it. [Seems like a good time to potentially learn but if he can’t get a proper handle on it, then he will put the weapon down. He’s curious, but not careless. Best to stick with weapons he’s more familiar with.]

[So you know, as much as he's frustrated with the phantom ruby no longer operating, he's at least thankful to be conscious again. Losing your physical form and getting dragged into a robot isn't a particularly nice way to live, so for the moment he's actually in a somewhat better mood than he'd usually be.

Unfortunately, he made the transition from fairly skilled mercenary with razor sharp instincts to omnipotent jerkbag with cushy supernatural senses for so long that he's rusty from having it so easy. It doesn't take long at all for him to wander into a spider's pit and have his foot completely sink into the ground. He can practically feel something trying to grab a hold of him and, potentially life threatening scenario aside, it's also super, super gross.]

[After that little escapade, his former good mood is completely shot. When the scanner pod flies by to investigate him, it doesn't take long for Infinite to snatch it out of midair with one hand, taking one of its appendages between two fingers and giving it a tug.]

[Honestly? Weapons have been the best part of this experience so far. Infinite has a clear bias towards swords, testing out several; hand on the hilt, taking a few practice swings. But each and every one falls below his expectations, and so he ends up tossing them back.

In some cases, literally.]

To think when I need that sword the most, I'd already thrown it away...the irony doesn't escape me.

LONG TIME NO SEE... i

[ normally, Sonic would be running through the forest. Actually, scratch that: he is still running through the forest, just at a much slower tempo than usual. His lost speed has been quite a setback, but over the weeks, he's been slowly adjusting to life in the slow lane - and, as it turns out, just being a little slow doesn't mean he doesn't still want to run and explore. Not to mention that people need help hunting, gathering, and whatever else. Even if it's not the most exciting work in the world, it's not in his nature to stand by when people need him.

Case in point: right now. Sonic doesn't recognize this menacing-looking masked furry with his foot stuck in the ground, but that doesn't matter. Clearly, he needs a hand. ]

Woah! Gotta be careful there, pal. Here, I gotcha!

[ he slows to a halt, walking over to try and grab Infinite's arm and tug him out ... so helpful. ]

monday | heaven & hell roman company

1. marsh's quicksand

[ truthfully? monday doesn't even know how long he's been out here. stuck. but it's certainly been long enough that the light around the area has all but disappeared, the marsh now looking a lot more ominous in the shroud of the night. monday had attempted calling out for help, but only physically, as the telepathic part of this venture is still so strange to him, and he had figured, well, surely, surely someone will hear him or stumble upon him in no time.

cut to several hours later, and monday's actually fallen asleep. blame it on the chill in the air, or the lack of feeling in the lower half of his body still submerged in the marsh, or maybe just plain boredom. whatever the reason, he'd been completely knocked out.

up until a sound nearby rouses him, that is. he blinks rapidly, somehow quick enough to realize that, yes, that sounds he's hearing are definitely footsteps! finally! his savior has come!

he is, unfortunately, not quick enough to remember the reason he needed a savior in the first place, which means his warning may come a little belatedly: ]

2. qri's caravan (+ telepathy)

[ after finally coming to understand the telepathic network they've all been linked up to, monday had been quite excited to give it a whirl. he'd been careful, but perhaps a little too careful, and now he's lost his chance to make the choice for himself, his hand forced thanks to his own damned curiosity.

he had rather hoped his grand debut onto the network wouldn't be such a pathetic call for help, but there you have it: ]

3. brie's weapons

[ with so many sights to see and be amazed with thanks to brie's generous display, it probably shouldn't be too striking to see this short, twig of a man wandering through the camp, embarrassment coming off of him in waves as he lugs around a large scythe, considerably taller than his own body. still, anyone paying attention and looking past the strange contrast may notice he carries it with a strange sort of familiar ease...

Saber of Red (Mordred) | Fate/Apocrypha

(1) No-one Saw That (spoiler: Everyone Saw That)
[ when you come across Mordred, it's an odd sight. (he? she?) they are laying face-first in a patch of muddy dirt. the thin layer of greenery around them has been gouged deeply by the clawing of hands and fingers, attempts to dig their boots into the earth only to slip away. nearly their entire body, from the red leather jacket to the cut-off shorts, is covered in stains from the dirt and moss.

further investigation shows that the patch they are in isn't where this began, but where they ended up. further up the hill is a trail of similar scuffs and gouges, beginning at the base of a tree that has a few of its thickest branches freshly snapped off. the sequence of events is easy enough for most to put together.

the question now might be... is this person unconscious, or actually ... dead? there is no movement, not even the rise and fall in their chest of breathing, until suddenly they thrash about and onto their back. Mordred takes a deep breath and wipes the mud from their face before letting out an irritated bellow. ] Ugh, what the hell!! When I find that stupid thing, I'm going to pound it with the biggest rock I can find!

[ it's then that she notices that someone is standing nearby, ostensibly watching her making an utter fool of herself. face flush with anger and teeth bared, Mordred can't even sit up on her own, much less move away. she's giving off all the vibes of a cornered animal as she practically snarls. ] How long have you been there?!


(2) you ruined a perfectly good Servant is what you did. look at it. it's got anxiety.
Master? Master! Are you here? [ one may not be able to see the irritation in her telepathic words, but if one could somehow trace that unintentional message back to Mordred at the base camp, they'd see her sitting at the highest convenient point, hand to her forehead and head turning this way and that as she scans the area. ]

I swear if you've gotten yourself caught or killed, I'll find a way to get to you and kill you a second time over! I'm not disappearing this easily — do you hear me!? ANSWER ME!!

[ in truth, she looks visibly distraught the longer this drags on. there's no sign of anything familiar from the world she's from and it's starting to sink in that the only thing making this situation look temporary is her own impending dissolution. "fun"! ]


(3) Running with Scissors
[ free weapons? okay. though Mordred doesn't trust this arrangement in the slightest but being armed with a shitty sword is better than the alternative. she pretends not to be interested in the offerings until she spots a broadsword that looks functional enough, if chipped and in desperate need of a cleaning. (so, just like her at this point.)

Mordred picks it up and steps away from the selection to try it out. though it doesn't look like it belongs in her hands she wields it with skill enough not to hack herself or anyone nearby as she takes some practice swings. her fingers grip the haft, and Mordred stares on as if expecting the blade to do something.

anything. ] Tch. What a pain...

Hey! [ scowling, Mordred turns to the closest person to her (even if they were a few feet away) and pushes/throws the weapon at them. no worries, it isn't pointy-side first, but it isn't with any care if they catch it in their hands or upside the head. ] Here.

[ Julieta is about those weapons. Finding something that might suit her is the challenge. She hasn't exactly a lot of combat experience with these kinds of weapons. Still, some of them look interesting. She's examining the swords when suddenly one just comes right at her just as she looks up to find the source of the voice. Regardless of which way it's pointing, she's startled and takes it as a threat. But only for a moment. Meanwhile the sword just kind of hovers there. ]

What are you throwing it at me for? Put it back.

Xerxes Break | Pandora Hearts

I. "I don't think..." "Then you shouldn't talk," said the Hatter.

[The picture doesn't become quite as clear for Break as it might for others following their arrival, given his eye isn't in its best condition. He remembers a forest not unlike the one he now stumbles into, trees blurred and colorless in the darkness of the night of his departure. He remembers a visceral hate that drove him to move forward, but the striking differences are sending his mind reeling into doubt after a few measly steps. The sun is shining through the branches overhead, and the ground squashes beneath his boots. The figures he so wanted to drive the sword he brandishes are gone, replaced with... who are they?

If you're ahead of Break in his misadventure, heaven help you. His jaw is clenched tight as he reorients himself, and his hand is gripped tight around a cane-sword as he starts in your direction.]

Where are we? [His voice has an unsteadiness of someone trying to remain calm, but can't disguise the fact they aren't quite enough.] Which direction is the mansion?

II. Curiouser and curiouser.

[Break was dressed nicely, before all this. His clothes were something straight from a ballroom, and his hair was tied back to keep from obscuring his face. Now? The ends of his pants are drenched in mud, and hair pins are clinging to strands that have all but escaped his tight bun. His neck tie is undone and the shirt beneath is left open after investigations of the weight above his chest, scratch marks around the gem indicating he didn't appreciate the discovery. He's missing a glove. There's blood on his collar. It's a wonder he's still standing.

A brief, fleeting wonder, because his face meets the ground seconds after one might have laid eyes on him. The earth's given way under the former semblance of elegance, leaving him waist deep in mud and his front covered in another layer after the initial fall. Break sits still in this hole for a moment of contemplation, then simply sits back to accept this is where he's going to be. Perhaps you witnessed this, or perhaps you're stumbling upon him now. Either way, please help him. He's too old for this.]

III. Would you like some wine? We haven't any and you're too young.

[After all the grime and grim revelations, one might find solace in something normal. A bath perhaps, or comfort food. But Break has resorted to one thing he knows best: drinking. There's a mess of muddy footprints down to the basement, where the man is sat upon a stool nursing a whole bottle of wine. It's recently opened, not quite a quarter empty, so there is no reason for there to be color in his cheeks.

But they still are. He's still hot-headed, embarrassed by the day's events and frustrated he can't return to his unfinished business. He lifts his head at the sound of footsteps, leaning back in his seat for a better view of the arrival. His eye stares in their direction, but not directly at them.]

Oh, have I made too much of a mess? [He smiles, but his tone is bitter.] Or are you here for the same reason as I~?

Huh? [Mansion... His mansion? That's probably a coincidence, since they're nowhere near Meltokio. He glances around.] Beats me. I don't think there's a mansion sitting in the middle of this forest, either... Did you just show up here, too?

Juno Scales System Status: Locked. -Her tone is calmly, almost distressingly practical, sounding more like a computer than a woman, though with the mask she was wearing it was difficult to ascertain what the case truly was with her. It felt a bit like one was watching a machine in boot process, accessing internal data in order to determine just where she was, and why she was there. It didn't seem to be going well...-

Bup bup buuuu... I'm lost! This is no good! I'm alone in this place with no candy! What am I gonna do?! -And yet after the internal scan, a strangely child-like voice shrieks through in panic, bouncing on her heels as the chain connected to her ankle shook about. The noise was bound to attract something, at the rate she was going. But it was about then she spotted, well, YOU, and bounced in similar fashion to greet.-

Bupbuuu! Hello, hello! Are you lost, too? I really hope not. -Her voice suddenly dipped back into the previous tone, analytical yet playful in its own way.- I'm unable to interface with any local magic systems here. In fact, I don't seem to be able to access my internal systems at all. This is very troubling... Do you have any idea what's going on?

She's tearing her way around camp, running a lot faster than one would expect a person with a ball and chain around their ankle would be even remotely capable of. Her desperation is almost palpable.-

Candy... candy -A tired and sad, childlike voice.- ... Systems failing... -An equally tired and sad, adult voice? What was with this girl? She turned, the eyes of her mask seeming to flash as she spotted someone, YOU in fact, and charged her way over.-

St. Martha | Fate/Grand Order

I. The Spider Puncher

[There's a hoary old turn of phrase about saints and their patience, but Martha's is running dangerously low. Getting teleported to exotic locales is part of her usual job description, but usually her Master and a few of the other Chaldea servants are with her. Not only is she alone, but her precious staff is missing, and she can't seem to call forth the Tarasque, and there's this thing implanted in her chest! It's a lot.

And so she's not exactly being super careful or quiet as she trudges through the woods, moving with heavy, stomping steps. She discovers she's in spider country when her foot goes right through one of those trapdoors, sending her stumbling--and bringing them swarming to the surface.

Shouting out a few choice salty curses, she goes hard in the "fight" direction, trying to crush every spider she can get a foot or fist on. Do you stumble on her mid-spiderbrawl? Or find her stepping grimly from the trees, looking like hell covered in spider bites and spider insides?]


II. Finding Camp

[The weird tickles in the back of Martha's mind have been getting more intense for a while now, hitting a whole new level as she crosses from the woods to this somewhat worse-for-wear settlement. That instantly makes her that much more suspicious. Is whoever or whatever summoned her to this place holed up in here? Some sort of heathen sorcerer or whatnot? If that's what's going on here, she's gonna break their jaw so they can't chant spells anymore--

Ah, wait, maybe that would be a little extreme. Not all mages are that bad, after all. So Martha reins those more violent impulses in, but not before she manages to broadcast that threat to the network without realizing it.]


III. Pile o' Weapons

[As soon as Martha realizes there's weapons lying around, like, everywhere, she starts checking out the selection. She's not a woman of violence, she'd insist about 90 percent of the time, but her staff is definitely missing--perhaps that holy implement, which she supposes she does use as a weapon when necessary, got mixed up with them.

After quite a bit of searching, she's frustrated to realize it doesn't seem to be here--but she does stumble on something else: a pair of simple but sturdy, heavy metal gauntlets. [If there were ever a ye olde who did not understand what on earth these scanner things are and thinks maybe this is an elaborate prank in some way he doesn't understand— that ye olde would be Reim. That ye olde is definitely Reim, who already cuts a strange enough figure as he wanders around in the woods dressed to the nines in his Victorian fashion.

Right now he's being heckled - pardon, studied - by one of these scanner pods, not that he knows what it is. He's gotten "mechanical" and that's where the limits of his understanding sit, but he is trying to talk to it while it occasionally taps him on the head.]

[As a person who has never had a "power," as such, not one of his own that isn't borrowed from something else, Reim starts out just as clumsy with the power he's been given as he is with the telepathy. It's a point in his favor that he doesn't know about this power in detail yet, but it's still... messy.

Literally. The power in its simplest form is the control of ink, and Reim hasn't yet noticed. He's noticed that the fountain pen he's using to try and write something in a tiny notebook seems to be dry, which is so frustrating(!!!) and he does not at all notice the smear of ink he wipes across his own face when he reaches up to rub at his temples with one hand.

[ spiders the size of dinner plates aside (that was a hectic five minutes before kanda made them scatter back to where they came from), the main thing was trying to navigate through this forest. and by forest, he means the death trap disguised as one. the ends of his uniform is caked with bits of spider nests, mud, leaves, and of course, swamp extract, and kanda's patience is running critically low.

not to mention the blood loss. that's a pretty big deal too. what worst timing to land himself in a place like this. was this because of the arc going haywire with the destruction? if that were the case, kanda supposes that he hasn't got too much time left before this area gets swallowed up and broken down too.

[ Well, she's at the camp now, but with people being busy and her being a bit tired from trekking through a wet forest, Karin's going to need a break to let everything... sink in? She's drawn to the caravan but will investigate after a breather, and a little rations a coven member so kindly gave her despite the tired scowl she's wearing. Her thoughts are a little different though, as she spaces out and broadcasts them. ]

This is difficult... How would she do it? With a big smile and going on about this or that like an idiot? Spout off some Hero Tenet about greetings?

[ WEAPONS! Karin would very much like to be armed, thank you. This is an unknown place that probably has danger (even if it supposedly didn't Karin would doubt that forever) so being equipped and prepared is definitely a priority. Also she might like Qri a bot more, thanks lady for the help.

However, this is a stubborn girl who has a preference when it comes to weapons, and the one she's trying to swing around is a bit bigger than she's used to. To her though it's an absolutely stunning piece of work to not just try it out for a bit... she can practices wielding blades, it'll be alright. The long blade is just... a little less than her height in length, but she can wield it with some willpower! ...Barely. ]

I've got this! I-it's just a little longer than what I'm used to, but it'll be fine!

[ The saving grace that prevents imminent disaster and injury (severe, at least) is that she's smart enough to keep the blade sheathed while getting a handle on it. Someone, please help her find smaller swords, ideally as a pair. ]

Though she is, unfortunately, unarmed, that doesn't stop her from giving the first spider that attempts to crawl its way towards her a swift kick. ]

[Everything about this situation is weird and confusing, and the scanner pod is no exception. Shinji's never seen a machine like this before, but he has no reason to doubt it, really. (What else would it be doing if not its job, right?) It does make him feel a little bit uncomfortable, though. While at first, Shinji just lets the machine hover around, he eventually just lets out a sigh. It's too weird.]

[A sharp object has been shoved as Shinji and he is utterly bewildered. Were they honestly expecting him to fight? And with... this? Honestly, he could barely handle piloting the Eva, he didn't even want to imagine trying to wield a heavy weapon like a sword or a spear in actual physical combat.

He was too taken aback by Brie's decision to arm him suddenly that he hadn't really done much to argue, but once he's left alone with the thing, he decides his best bet is probably to just pawn the weapon off. And so, Shinji searches for someone who doesn't appear to have a weapon in hand and—]

[What's worse than a scanner pod? A panda and a scanner pod. Both of them have been following Shinji for the last fifteen minutes. Honestly? Neither of them are impressed. Panda thinks it'd be nicer if he'd found a cute girl to follow, but Shinji is the only person here?

Up until now, Panda hasn't said anything. But.]

You're right. You're not very interesting at all. [He looks to the scanner pod as if waiting for it to agree. It. Does not. Panda still nods sagely, making it up in his head as he goes before turning back to Shinji.] Why don't you put some 'service, service' into it?

[ you know what sucks? being forced to stumble around in a muddy forest in heels.

all that phos could do was sigh about it, though, as he warily made his way through the trees. he slipped once or twice on the slick ground, especially when he hit a small slope, but managed to keep his feet for the most part. but it was a struggle, especially with his weight, to not just sink into the dense muck. but he wouldn't, not if he had anything to say about it- ]

Wha- ah!

[ ...just when he was getting to be all confident, too. phos hit what more or less felt like a hole, but was in fact a puddle, and with a loud SPLASH he was left in muddy water up to his knees. and was quickly sinking more. oh.

hopefully someone heard that. because as far as he could tell he was in some woods he'd never seen before, alone, slowly sinking down into the earth and that was a frightening thought if he let it get to him. he tried not to. instead, he began struggling, wiggling back and forth in an effort to pull one leg or the other out of the muck. all it seemed to do was make it worse, though. ugh. ]

[ eventually, one way or another, phos escaped from the mud. it left him paranoid about each and every bit of wet ground he saw as he traveled through the remainder of the forest, but somehow even with his eyes roaming back and forth across his path he only saw the metallic thing moving towards him at the last second.

his first instinct was to lash out, and with one arm he engulfed the weird object in his equally weird alloy arm. the metal stretched around the struggling... thing before he realized it wasn't trying to hurt him. what in the world-? ]

What are you? [ he ended up blurting out. as if it would answer. that would be silly, right? ]

[ freedom from the forest was great, but phos was left more than a little lost when he emerged to see nothing familiar. nothing at all. it wasn't surprising, really, with what he'd already been through but... part of him still expected to see something familiar. someone familiar. and he didn't, at least not at first. but eventually he got over that sense of falling, floundering, and entered the camp and finally ended up at the caravan. it seemed like an obvious draw, at least to him.

the people were all strange to look at, but somehow similar enough that he was able to get over his uneasy feeling fairly quick. and no one was attacking him, which was great, but why was he suddenly greeted by the sight of all sorts of weapons? he didn't have a chance to ask before one, a small sword, was being shoved into his hands. ]

Ah, wait! I have my own... [ no. that's not true. he reached towards his hip with one hand but it wasn't there. a surge of panic filled him, worse than when he was stuck alone in the forest. did he somehow drop it there? no, if he thought back, it had been gone from the beginning. ] No... nevermind. Is there some reason these are being given out?

( Cinnabar was personally insistent that he didn't need a weapon, and he's not the type to go picking them up on his own. He has his own staff and his own ability -- he's dangerous enough on his own without another heavy burden to carry around.

It's not as if he expects others to hold true to his own convictions, however. If soft, fleshy humans want to go around picking up dangerous objects, hacking and slashing at things...fine. It's their precious lives they're putting in jeopardy.

It's hard to mistake Phos for someone else. The identifying traits of a gem are obvious; there's no chance for mistaken identity. You think they're one person from behind, but they turn around and it's someone different -- not possible with gems, really. That's why it's obvious this loser holding a sword can be no one other than that idiot. )

Do you know what you're doing with that thing? ( That's the only greeting he's willing to give, even though it hides something akin to profound hope that's blossoming in his heartless chest. )

still, the spiders aren't even as big as the ones he's used to back home. it isn't exactly his first time in a dark, dank forest either, but there's much to be said about the element of surprise! which is to say, he wasn't exactly expecting to go from town to forest in the blink of an eye, so can he really be blamed for getting tangled up in a massive spiders' den?

the answer's probably yes, by the way, as the entire clearing's littered with messy, tangled, ugly webbing. these spiders have advertised their presence loud and clear, and gran's just the type of guy to linger around, despite knowing the danger.

... not that he has the convenient choice of high-tailing it out of there, now that he's stuck, hanging upside down in a rather massive collection of webs, with his sword stuck feet away and spun into its own neat, little bundle -- well out of arm's reach.

more importantly, someone straddling the fourth wall might think, but uh, you've got a perfectly good mud prompt if gran's just going to get trapped anyway.

[ is what this girl is shouting as she runs right up to you. ideally she'll catch you before said other step happens. it seems that she's been jogging about quite urgently, if the way her flushed cheeks nearly match the shade of her hair is anything to go by. once caught up, she stops and rests her hands on her knees a moment, head hung low. breathless, Ritsuka manages to catch her breath enough to get a few words out. ] Oh. Good. Thanks. Just. What. Looking. For.

[ that said, she bends down at your feet, reaches out and... picks up the thick branch that's there before you in her dirty hands. ] Found it!

[ with that done, she turns right around, jogs a couple of meters away, and crouches down low to the ground once more right in the face of a couple of adult spiders that had just been scurrying about after her this whole time. ] Is this good enough?

the upside? the trapdoor he'd fallen through had been an abandoned one, so whoohoo, no oversized spiders to be found there.

the downside? now he'll be stopping anyone and everyone who happens to pass by the general vicinity, meaning he'll actually walk right up to you, yes you, and look you right in the eye. ]
