ou blink and that's all it takes. At first, the picture doesn't come in clear, like you're waiting for a screen to fully load -- more aptly, it's like you're waiting for a camera to focus so you can find image clarity. Before you happened to rapidly close your eyes and open them, your life was normal...well, normal for you, anyway. Fighting an alien, making a quesadilla, dying. And then that blurry picture suddenly takes over. There's a lot to take in here -- you feel weird, your surroundings are weird. Everything is just weird. For starters, there's that new piece of jewelery inserted in the space above your chest. That certainly wasn't there before you opened your eyes.
B ▢ The recent surge of rain has caused a few marshy areas, be it in the forest or a hilly landscape. Some swampy ground is more aggravating than treacherous, but the opposite is also true. Your character is strolling along, trying to find their way and all of a sudden SCHLUMP! Their leg is sunk into the ground up to their nether regions. Struggle, and the rest of them might fall in too...! C ▢ While your character is trying to figure out where the fuck they are, they may come across something scuttling about through the forest. Don't panic -- it's simply a scanner pod doing its due diligence and scouting for resources...oh! And it just happened upon something interesting: your character! This scanner robot is curious to investigate and record your data. Is your character going to trust them to do their job, or will they be suspicious of this looming machine? |
Here's the part where they finally locate something of use: the base camp. The murky, weathered location is a little distressed, and resource gathering is making coven members sparse. However, that doesn't mean helpful answers aren't only a step away.
E ▢ Speaking of Qri's caravan, the floating "vehicle" currently has its trap door, hammerspace portal open. It's quite large and inviting, honestly. Want to get closer to Qri? Or maybe just take shelter from the few sprinkles that are still falling from the sky? Crawl on in! Just be warned: the door will close right behind your character, and that thing gets claustrophobic after a while. F ▢ Finally, since Brie is aware that a new world is approaching, she's gotten a little more weapon-obsessed. There are an assortment of weapons just laying all over the place, from swords to spears, from slingshots to...god, what even is that thing your character has never seen before. Whether they're curious about something and like to touch things that don't belong to them or Brie is trying to outfit them with a weapon that works for them, your character is now weaponized. What do??? G ▢ Wildcard prompt. Go nuts and utilize your own creativity within the setting. This can mean striking out on your own or utilizing a certain location in a different way. The world is your oyster! |
senel coolidge | tales of legendia
[ A new world with unfamiliar magic, sure. Senel feels like he's starting to have heard of everything - up to and including him having crystal eres. Or what feels like crystal eres. He certainly didn't expect to wander around the swamplands, either.
But a guy's gotta take a break, and so he reaches for some melon bread in his bag and - ah. yep.
That sure is his ankle sinking into a particularly muddy bit of marsh. He stares at his ankle, then at the piece of bread in his hand, and promptly sighs: ] Great... Just my luck.
C.
[ After the bread-in-the-swamp incident, Senel's keen on getting back in one piece. His legs and arms are caked in dried mud; his hair's probably a tangled mess; and his bread is gone. (#priorities.)
Needless to say, he is more than a little displeased with a machine-thing that seems intent on doing... something... to him. As a bright infrared light descends upon him, Senel does the only reasonable and logical thing. He approaches it first - ]
Hey! [ And then, he curls his fingers up into a fist and aims a punch straight for that light. ]
[ Smart? Not really. But then again, logic's kind of gone out the window. ]
F.
[ You know, after punching a harmless scanner, Senel should've seen the new weapon coming. Instead of his typical brass knuckles, he's been armed with two giant, red boxing gloves. He doesn't see how they'll help him. Don't gloves muffle the pain or something? Plus, he isn't even a boxer - ] Thanks, but no thanks.
[ He's trying, even backing slowly away a little. ] I don't need a weapon. See? [ He holds up some - still kind of bruised - fingers, ] My hands'll heal just fine.
wildcard.
[ none of these work for you? just pm me or slam down a different starter, and we'll get the ball rolling. ]
c (hello!!!)
His train of thought is interrupted by . . . Senel deciding to punch the pod. Typical, some faint part of him thinks, even as the rest of him continues to freak out.]
. . . Senel. Don't do that.
[Uh. Hi?]
(yesss, hi!!)
[ Senel lands a punch, alright - but it doesn't even make a dent. The robot scanner chirps along, completely undeterred by its assailant. In fact, it eyes him up and down and just keeps on scanning.
To prove his point, Senel gives the robot a casual whack. Again. ]
What does it want? [ . . . ] And Jay, how come you're not attacking it?
no subject
It's a robot. [He realizes, belatedly, that this doesn't really clarify anything.] A kind of automaton that was made to gather information about this island and its inhabitants. It's not attacking you.
no subject
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . ]
Oh.
[ well, that's just embarrassing. he stands straighter, giving the robot what could possibly be mortification, horror, and disgust all at once. he's just gonna thank the heavens and Nerifes and every god out there that Will and Shirley weren't around to see this. ]
So it's not out to get us.
[ . . . yeah. he's just going to hang his head in shame here. ]
no subject
[This is honestly pretty funny, but he's having trouble fully appreciating the humor, as shell-shocked as he is. He's considered what he'd do if Senel appeared in the coven, but that was always contingent on him being from the same time as Jay. That he isn't is probably a good thing, and yet it leaves him at a loss for what to do.]
. . . Senel, what's the last thing you remember?
no subject
We were at the Alter of the Sea. [ Simple enough, right? Except he's talking to Jay, who'd want more of a real answer, so he adds, more gently than usual: ] We beat Schwartz, remember?
You said it yourself. We were going to win, and we did.
no subject
[Who or what is Schwartz? Some kind of enemy? That Senel remembers things he doesn't can only mean one thing, and yet--that doesn't make any sense. If Senel is from the future, not the past, then why on earth is he greeting Jay like a friend?
He shuts his mouth, belatedly, and manages a,]
. . . I don't remember that.
no subject
[ He reaches into his pockets, intent on rummaging around for a lemon gel or an orange gel or something that would heal his friend. ]
I don't exactly have healing eres, but I did have a couple of gels on me...
no subject
I don't need gels! I have some, anyway. Senel-- [How the hell does he explain time travel?] How long have you been here? Did you have a chance to read the letter?
no subject
[ He glances down at the new, cerulean-tinted jewel right above his chest. It certainly makes him feel gaudy... ]
I did, but it didn't make any sense. If it's magic this Qri wants, shouldn't she have grabbed someone like Norma? Crystal eres sounds a lot more like what she's after.
no subject
[A pause, while he sorts out how to explain this.]
The magic Qri used to bring us to this place does . . . odd things with time. I've been with the coven for more than four months.
no subject
Really? I know I only saw you yesterday, so... [ Kind of like when they went to fight Schwartz? There was a rip in the sky, and they were transported elsewhere... ] This must be like the Cradle of Time.
[ It's the closest analogue he's got: different space-time continuum from the world he'd sworn to protect with his friends. Senel doesn't particularly get what's going on, but - ]
Time works weird here, right? Like uh, when we go back to the Legacy, it won't be like any time passed at all?
no subject
[He thinks of mentioning some of the weirdness of Dirk's world--the possibility that they come from different instantiations of the same universe--but decides that's too complicated for right now.]
She can take us from different points in time from one another, and she has. Shirley comes from one point in time, I come from around three months later than her, and you-- [This is utterly impossible, but there's no other conclusion he can draw. He hasn't even heard of Schwartz.] I believe you must come from even further in the future.
no subject
(He must've left it back in Werites Beacon. At least, he hopes he did.) ]
I... didn't know that was possible. But yeah, you don't remember her or the black mist...
[ Then he really is from the future. The gang's seen a lot of crazy things. Time travel wasn't one of them. ]
How long has Shirley been here?
no subject
[He hesitates--there are a lot of questions he wants to ask, not least why aren't you angry at me?, but he restrains himself for the moment.]
Senel--there's a lot she doesn't remember.
no subject
You're - [ "you're not kidding." ] Wait, what does she remember?
no subject
[So. You know. Have fun with that?]
no subject
[ So whenever he finds Shirley, he'll have to re-live the heartbreak, the suffering, and the pain he'd caused (even if it had been unintentional). Senel swallows thickly, and for a moment, he's at a loss for words. When Jay had proposed time-travel, and Shirley being here, Senel had never imagined this.
(Then again, how could he? When he barely knows how all of this works?)
He trusts Shirley unconditionally. He always had. But if she'd only just completed the Rite of Ascension, she may not want to listen, let alone breathe the same air as him. ]
Then we have to get through to her all over again.
