[WEEKLY UPDATE | SEPTEMBER 30TH]
OOC NOTES
▢ The hub island is back, which means that a new world will come up sometime in October. Look for more weekly update posts for information on this new world, when the coven will arrive and etc. ▢ The bulk of this weekly update post will be responses to the first game poll, which will be discussed in dotted bullets. As an aside, thank you so much everyone for so many constructive comments and suggestions! • First and foremost, it's heartwarming to see so many people appreciating the game, regardless of their criticisms or difficulties! • There will be no changes to the game caps OR AC. Bonus AC will be explained more thoroughly and expanded upon based on player feedback. • For now, both the log and network (telepathy) comms will be kept. Once measurements are put in place to potentially bolster more telepathic communication are put in place, we'll see if both are still needed. Right now having both keeps action in the action comm with minimal telepathic prompts, and telepathy only posts will still remain in the telepathy comm. • In the future, there will be a greater attempt at a larger, overarching plot while having smaller, "side quests" for players to interact with. These will be more in line with newbie interests, as well as more accessible for other characters who want to interact with the setting on a smaller, more intimate scale. These side quests will also have more tangible rewards -- think like an RPG. Complete side quest, get rewarded. These side quests will be both individual and small team based. • The largest issue at hand is the complaints with the pacing which are absolutely understandable. There seems to have been an issue of being scared players would have nothing to do, and thus they were given a lot to do, all the time, while not being wholly INTERactive. Logs will be a staple in the game since it's very action/adventure oriented, but an effort will of course be made to slow them down and space them out. This may involve staying in worlds longer, which was another initial concern. Staying in worlds for long periods of time can make things drag on, while also making things more awkward for newbies who come in during the later part of the world. A happy medium is something everyone wants, and hopefully the next world trip will involve a little more of a balance. • Thank you to Geir's player for the "yes, but" suggestion! That's definitely sound advice and will be concerned when concocting the next plot and discussing it with players. • NPC integration will definitely be a bigger part of the next world, as well as the time moving forward on the hub island. • Prompt ideas will also be a little more interactive and varied. If you have any suggestions for things to do on the Hub island, please provide some here! Also, feel free to throw things out to the mod account via PM or to players if you have an idea for getting people together, something your character can do that can create a plot, etc. This game is influenced by the characters within it, and making them a part of the game in this way is encouraged! • A sticky post on the OOC comm will be put up every time a new world is visited. This will contain the initial Google Doc with the setting info, but it will also serve as a Q&A post for setting questions. This should make looking for information about the worlds easier. • Prompts will also encourage magic and telepathy more. This may not be easy to pull off, considering everyone has different magic, but more effort will be put towards utilizing this mechanic. It's one of the biggest parts of the game, after all! ▢ While there were a lot of other comments made by you guys, these were the biggest and most recurring that should be addressed. These changes will be implemented as soon as next week's update post, while others of course won't be as noticeable until the new world. ▢ Speaking of the new world, more info on that...wait and see! ▢ Finally, EMP was today. You're encouraged to put up a castmate request comment here! |
IC EVENTS
▢ One of the most pressing issues on the island is to try and find enough food for everyone. While there's an obvious food source in these boars everywhere (and the stray crabs still scuttling around). Genette is going to call for teams of 4 to collect edible plants, animals and other...food stuffs from the island. You can either create your own team of 4, or be randomized into teams of four. These will be the threads for this: created & randomized. This can take place at any time during the week, but for randomized groups, this will be finalized on the 3rd. You can create your own logs for this, or utilize your IC inboxes! When your team is randomized, you'll be told what your team is looking for and if any of these items are actually inedible or can cause some crazy happenings. ▢ In an effort to get to know everyone better, Genette is trying to come up with little ice breaker games...which these are somewhat awkward, but it helps with bonding, right? She's grouped together as many people as possible, and even forcibly snagged a few people using some Elto bones she snagged and some string -- she may not have liked the Palai, but they had some good ideas about making people do things! On the 5th, as many coven members as possible will be forced to play an interview type game where they'll have to introduce themselves with some biodata, a little known fact, etc. This will be a log, but it's meant to be very casual -- your character may have gotten to escape! ▢ Finally, the question was asked recently whether or not the island has any weather...and it does! In fact, it will be frequently raining off and on throughout the week, switching from clear skies to total downpours. You may want to fix any holes in those hut roofs. ▢ And, as always, anyone who wants to explore is welcome to! Jay's player has organized a lot of exploration-type scenarios, but you're welcome to create your own or ask what you can find in specific areas of the island. |
IMPORTANT DATES
▢ Reserves are essentially closed, but apps are open now! Remember: they're open 5 days, from the 1st through the 5th. They close at 11:59 PM EST on the 5th. ▢ Keep track of the calendar here! |

9S, 2B, Jude will find a plump version of white strawberries here. While the plants themselves are edible with no issues, the bushes that they grow on will be extremely thorny and difficult to pick from.

Lancer, Yukari, Archer will find a strange species of land eel here. They've recently come up from the small part of the ocean attached to the island to lay their eggs, which are edible with no obvious issues. The meat of the eels, however, is poisonous and causes a very near-fatal illness. These eels are about two feet in length, have the texture of a blob fish and have a very gummy meat.

Haru, Madoka, Nike, Red Savarin will find a very fragrant type of clover here. The clover is thick and lush, emitting a very comforting smell that directly effects the brain. While it doesn't lead to any high sensations at all, it does have a different smell depending on who happens to be sniffing it at the time. It may not be obviously edible, but it can be used as a seasoning to flavor meats and other foods.

Jay, Julius, Shiro will find a mountain mushroom here. They're entirely edible, but they're incredibly fast growing. On day one of their blooming, they're about the size of a palm. On day two, they easily reach the size of a large boulder, climbing to about 60 pounds per adult mushroom.

Sorey, Mikleo will find a great spot for a continuous wheat field here. Right now there's a small patch that can be harvested, but there are other small patches that are in younger stages of development. This field is made nutrient and seed-rich because of boar manure, however, so...you win some, you lose some.

Vern, Geir will find an offshoot of a stream here. Within this stream is a species of fish not unlike salmon. This isn't located too far away from Geir's cave, so it can act like a private food source, though they can also share their findings with the others. These fish are incredibly quick, though, and are best caught with meat as bait.
RANDOMIZED GROUPS

Emil Västerström, Alphonse Elric, Tara-Fay Smith will find a colony of rabbits here. They live off of the naturally lush vegetation in the area, though it's mostly soft grasses -- in fact, this is a great little hill area that's peaceful and aromatic. The rabbits are indeed edible, if you have the heart to kill the fluffy things.

Flynn Scifo, Robin Hood, Lalli Hotakainen will find a very small, secluded orchard here. The fruits produced in this orchard have the skin texture of apples, though they're much more round. The inside of these fruits is akin to a melon and they taste equally as sweet. While these are edible and don't have any truly adverse effects, the fruits do change a person's skin/hair tint to match their soft pink hue.

James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes, Percival, Xion will find a large species of land snail here (think the size of a chihuahua). These snails are edible, though eating or touching them leads to a hive-like rash. This rash isn't a factor when the snail is cooked.

Hibiki Kohaku, Jake, Moon, Dirk will find something very interesting here -- deer! These deer are very different from any you're used to. They hibernate during spring months and are much hardier than usual deer. They have hooves that are suited for mountain climbing and reside in caves, feeding off of cave moss. They're smaller than average deer in the ~real world~, and don't usually get bigger than the size of a juvenile deer. They can be hunted, and the meat has no adverse reactions.
