( TDM | #3 )

  • IMPORTANT: This TDM takes place on the current world the coven is part of. Please read the linked Google Doc about the world AND be aware that the world is high-frequency, meaning canon magic and powers can be used.
  • TDMs can be used for anyone interested in the game and/or testing out a new muse.
  • Test Drive samples are encouraged to be used for your application sample, though they are NOT a requirement.
  • Feel free to use one prompt, multiple prompts or make up your own!
  • These threads can be considered game canon upon game opening if you so choose.
  • Telepathy and magic can be used at any point in time on the TDM, from Prompt A to your wildcard prompt. A specific prompt exists, however, that makes sure all characters have an equal chance to use this mechanic within the TDM. You're encouraged to have characters use telepathy and their magic accidentally or even purposefully on any TDM prompt.
  • If you aren't set on your character's power yet or want to try out a few, you're still able to use the test drive. Maybe your character is a late bloomer and hasn't fully unlocked their intuitive drive yet. In the case of multiple powers, only prompts that contain the power you choose for your application will count as potential game canon threads.
  • While only one character can be apped or reserved during a cycle, feel free to post with more than one character if you like! This is for those who are uncertain of their first choice or who would like to try out different characters within the setting.
  • Prompts A and B take place on the island above Aimintas, so in-game characters can only utilize these prompts if they know how to get here or you can handwave how they would get there. It's not that deep.

    WORLD ONE: AIMINTAS

You blink and that's all it takes. At first the picture doesn't come in clear, like you're waiting for a screen to fully load -- more aptly, it's like you're waiting for a camera to focus so you can find image clarity. Before you happened to rapidly close your eyes and open them, your life was normal...well, normal for you, anyway. Fighting an alien, making a quesadilla, dying. And then that blurry picture suddenly takes over...

One point of implant is a sandy beach, next to an ocean shore. This may not be that abnormal to you, but there is a point of interest -- there is a huge, pulsating cube that lies inland, covering most of the island. There's about a mile stretch of land surrounding the cube's sides that is forested and sandy, but that's it.

There is the ocean, though the tide is very choppy. Characters may be able to swim across...or can they?

A ▢ Want to take a dip in the ocean? If you're so inclined, be careful -- the currents are strong and can quickly suck your character under if you aren't careful enough. There ARE boats on the shore, and you can also utilize these as a means of escape. Your character will just have to hope there's someone around to help them if they land in trouble!

B ▢ Some other characters may be checking out the island, so there's a chance your characters aren't alone on this mysterious island! If you ask them where you are, your character can take a magical journey to their real destination. Hope they aren't afraid of water travel.

The more fortunate potential coven members -- or those who made it from the island to Aimintas -- are located in the marketplace. There they'll be introduced to the Palai, their strange cultures and attitudes, as well as renewed excitement at the new members. There's getting to be so many coven members that they won't immediately recognize new additions from the old guard, but they're hospitable creatures anyway.

C ▢ The Palai have recently become interested in weaponry, especially weapons powered by Elto energy magic. There are still Palai youth who haven't learned their lesson from the coven celebration, running around and shooting characters with magical slingshots in an effort to be mischevious.

The newer development, though, is that the older Palai are also trying to get in on practicing using weaponry. Because they aren't totally sure who are new coven members and who has been here for a while, a Palai might challenge you to a duel. Will you take this as a threat, or the friendly scrimmage that it's intended to be?

D ▢ The Eltos are being utilized more and more for technological advancements, and while the Palai have failed at flying machines, they are trying to work on other, newer forms of transportation. They're still in the early stages of development, and they're looking to create transportation modes outside of the objects young Elto magic in an effort to have fun and play.

However, this requires some experimentation. Characters may find that certain items they touch immediately become motile, from pens that lunge forward and propel their holder through the air, to rugs that become magic carpets once they're stepped on. To everyone else: watch out!

E ▢ Despite the recent death of some Palai, the Palai "mating season" is beginning soon -- while their mating season syncs up with their past life as wild creatures, this is more so like a two week long Valentine's Day for their species. Palai are very much invested in family and relationships, and they haven't let go of pushing this belief onto coven members.

While their ideal family unit is three beings, they're willing to take baby steps. Your character has suddenly been grabbed and sat next to another character and the questions begin. The Palai matchmaker begins with this one: "What do you look for in an ideal partner?"

The land of Aimintas recently experienced some salty rainfall -- actually that's still going on for some reason. When will it stop? Nobody knows.

Because their resources may be limited while new harvesting methods are implemented, the Palai have to limit their use of vegetables, fruits and grains as the ones currently planted may be too damaged by salt water to be used. This has caused some changes to the Aimintas marketplace, reflecting the food rationing.

F ▢ The smart Palai have actually been saving up some of those dead fish that were falling out of the sky. Don't worry, they've been properly iced. The food being sold around the marketplace will focus on this fish, though they do need some characters to help prep the fish, including removing the scales and deboning the fish. Is your character good with a knife?

G ▢ Alternatively, Palai chefs have been experimenting with a complete line of fish delicacies. From fish sandwiches to fish brownies, your character will likely be asked to try a nasty ass fish something or other. Unless they're into that kind of thing, it's going to be hard to swallow -- but the Palai hope your character likes their new foods!

H ▢ Wildcard prompt. Go nuts and utilize your own creativity within the setting. This can mean striking out on your own or utilizing a certain location in a different way. The world is your oyster!

"I haven't seen one around here. It might be in the water." It's been a year and some change since he's seen anyone aside from his fellow paladins that looks very human. He'd thrown a bit of his usual caution to the wind and spoken up without announcing his approach. But he'd kept out of reaching range and holds up both his hands just in case.

"I hate to distract you but, any idea where we are?" He shouldn't be on some tropical beach and this doesn't seem like the battle he'd just been fighting. He glances around warily, but there's no sign of his enemy. "I can't tell."

At the sound of another person, Gohan immediately tensed up. The hardened warrior ready to spring into action for a moment, before his brain caught up with his reflexes. He'd spent so long fighting the androids, that he he didn't respond well to being snuck up on. And as paranoid as Gohan could be about an android attack, he knew well enough what the androids sounded like.

He turned his head, looking back at Shiro. The distance and raised hands doing plenty to put Gohan at ease, his shoulders going lax. At the question though, he couldn't help but glance around. "... No. This doesn't look very familiar." Then, he closed his eyes, concentrating for a moment. Stretching his senses out... and realizing very quickly that something was wrong.

He couldn't sense Bulma, or Trunks. He couldn't sense the usual pockets of civilization. Everything felt... different. Strange. He could sense life, but it was more plentiful, and... below them? Underwater?

    "... I don't think this is Earth."

"It's not where I was in the universe, either." He drops his hands and scans the area. He'd seen the other man shut his eyes but doesn't know what to make of that at the moment. He breathes deep and does the same, reaching out for his connection to his lion.

Nothing. He has a feeling if this was the Black Lion testing him he'd know it. "You said your shirt is missing? So is my armor." It could be connected. It might be nothing. But he has to explore the possibility.

"Let's take a look around. There's bound to be some kind of sign or clue to why we're here." If someone brought them here. They would show themselves eventually.
    lamentingly: (and give in)

Gohan didn't like this. He didn't like this, and it showed. There was no reason for him to be off-world, especially with his world in constant danger. He needed to get back, to fight the androids, to--

    Die?

His breath caught. The reminder of his imminent death grinding his train of thought to a halt. He opened his eyes then, his expression tense. Gulping down the lump in his throat, as he did his best to try and stay on topic.

"... Right." He chimed in, although it was less enthused than before. His right hand pressing against the sand, as he tried to get up. However, as he did so, his body decided to pick this moment to remind him just how sore it was. The older man grunting in pain, as he wobbled in place, and fell to one knee.

"H-Hang on, I..." He was not in great shape right now. "Just... gimme a moment..."

He closes the distance between them but makes his approach obvious. Shiro slowly kneels down, offering his metal hand out to him. "Here, lean on me." He'd seen some signs, tiny tells but he hadn't been sure until now. Something had felt off since he woke up on the sand with no signs of Zarkon or his lion.

Or even the vastness of space. "Maybe we'd better camp for a while instead."

There was a moment of hesitation at the metal arm, if only because of what it reminded him of. But he ultimately squelched it down and took his hand, knowing better than to judge someone just because of a robotic limb. It was a gut reaction really, thirteen years of conditioning against an opponent that seemed all but invincible. But he couldn't really afford to act like this, especially with his body in the condition that it was.

"Camp... might be good..." He panted, leaning against Shiro. He might not have had any visible wounds, but he certainly felt like his muscles were turned into ground beef. "Before this, I was... fighting. I thought maybe I got better when I woke up, but..." A soft chuckle. Mirthless, hollow. "Maybe not."

He notes the hesitation and files it away for later. Whatever is the problem his first priority is to help and secure a safe space they can both get their bearings. "At least whoever or whatever has us, isn't all powerful." He slowly eases his way up, keeping a hold of his companion and transferring the arm to be up over his own shoulders.

They need to find shelter. He risks a full look around once they're on their feet. A huge, pulsing cube takes up most of the view just behind them surrounded by forest and sand. "Well, looks like we found that clue. Can you make it as far as the trees?"
    lamentingly: (all i know)

Had he been able to focus a bit more, he could've made this a lot easier by just flying the two of them around the area. As things were though, he was having a hard enough time just walking, so flying was definitely out of the question. His muscles were screaming in protest with every movement, practically demanding Gohan just sit still. But Gohan refused to just be dead weight, especially given they still hd no idea where they were.

"I think so, yeah..." Gohan answered, biting his lower lip for a moment. He then took a sharp breath, steeling himself... before straightening up a bit, and trying to temporarily overcome his muscles' protests. "I'm gonna need some time to sit still after that, but I can definitely get that far..."
    spaceforged: (I need another route)

He doesn't ask anything else. They're too exposed like this. But he warns him before he takes a step. Step by step he moves towards the tree line in a steady constant pace. But he keeps alert. This would be the time they could attacked.

Nothing comes for them but he isn't relaxing for a moment. "I'm Shiro, by the way. A paladin of Voltron. I'm not sure if that will mean anything."
    lamentingly: (watch the time go)

    [personal profile] lamentingly 2017-08-22 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
To Shiro's credit, Gohan did appreciate the steady pace. It helped his muscles protest less, making it easier for him to simply focus on walking. Once they reached the tree line, he couldn't help but let out a breath he wasn't aware he was holding. His body going lax, as he immediately moved to sit on the ground.

"That's not a planet I've ever heard of, but it's nice to meet you anyway." Gohan answered. "My name's Gohan. I'm... I guess a defender of Earth."
spaceforged: (As long as we work together...)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-08-22 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
He helps Gohan down to the ground. Once he's sitting down he sits himself, settling himself so he's concealed by the trees but able to look out. "Nice to meet you too."

They don't have a first kit of any kind. There's no telling when he can get back in contact with his lion, let alone his team. He'll have to scout for supplies later once Gohan has rested for a little bit. It's too risky until then. "What were you doing earlier when you shut your eyes?"

"I was trying to find my friends."

It seemed like the simplest answer he could give, without going into detail about being able to sense energy. Not that he would've minded talking about it, but it wasn't something people took to easily. "I can... well, the simple answer is that I can sense people. I tried to see if I could find my friends, but... nothing here feels familiar. At all."

He closed his eyes again, trying to stretch out his senses. "I know what Earth's supposed to feel like. Where the pockets of civilization are, how spread apart they're supposed to be, stuff like that. This place though..." He shook his head. "Everything feels different. Most of what I'm sensing is... below us, I think. Like we're on top of the world."
    spaceforged: (...huh)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-08-23 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
He looks down and his brow furrows. "So it's likely that we're dealing with an aquatic people." Without his lion or his armor there's no way he can venture down there. There has to be some way to contact the world below if it is a civilization. "How acute is your scanning ability? It would be of some help to know anything you can find out." Again he shuts his own eyes reaching out for the Black Lion. Still nothing.

He rests his arms on his folded legs while glancing back up at the cube. If the tech is Galra or something else, he might be able to interface with it. Just what is it? At this distance he can't tell what it does. He turns his gaze back to keeping watch. It's inevitable something will come for them.

"...Getting down there might not be possible right now."
    lamentingly: (all i know)

    [personal profile] lamentingly 2017-08-23 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not as thorough as you might think, probably." Gohan said, a deflated sigh escaping his lips. He was pretty proud of how far his ability to sense ki had come, but at the end of the day, he wasn't Piccolo. He couldn't sense minute distinctions, or someone's intent. "The only other thing I could tell you is how powerful someone is."

Which brought him to the subject of Shiro, because while he couldn't exactly nail how powerful he was... he could definitely tell he was stronger than the average human. Maybe it was just a Voltron thing, like Saiyans.

"Until I heal up, I doubt we're going anywhere. Thankfully, I usually heal pretty fast, so maybe we won't have to wait long."
spaceforged: (Have to reign in the space cats.)

    [personal profile] spaceforged 2017-08-23 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
He relaxes a hair. He had been prepared to counter any talk of moving. Good to know they both see the sense in staying out. "Right. Once you've rested a bit I'll scout a little ways around this area." He turns his head to stare at the cube. Could it be jamming his connection? "...if that cube is related to any interface I know. I might be able to find out more about it."

Maybe. He hadn't forgotten last time the Galra interface had identified him as a fugitive. He'd have to be very careful. If the Galra are here... There's a faint flicker across his senses and he blinks. What had that been? "If I can't we can at least get a better look at it." He doubts it brought them here but he isn't a tech expert.

"...how...is Earth? I haven't been there in over a year." He hadn't meant to ask. His concerns are all centered around the safety of his team and the whereabouts of his lion. Without it. Voltron can't be formed. The universe itself is in danger. But Earth was and is his home.
