( TDM | #3 )

  • IMPORTANT: This TDM takes place on the current world the coven is part of. Please read the linked Google Doc about the world AND be aware that the world is high-frequency, meaning canon magic and powers can be used.
  • TDMs can be used for anyone interested in the game and/or testing out a new muse.
  • Test Drive samples are encouraged to be used for your application sample, though they are NOT a requirement.
  • Feel free to use one prompt, multiple prompts or make up your own!
  • These threads can be considered game canon upon game opening if you so choose.
  • Telepathy and magic can be used at any point in time on the TDM, from Prompt A to your wildcard prompt. A specific prompt exists, however, that makes sure all characters have an equal chance to use this mechanic within the TDM. You're encouraged to have characters use telepathy and their magic accidentally or even purposefully on any TDM prompt.
  • If you aren't set on your character's power yet or want to try out a few, you're still able to use the test drive. Maybe your character is a late bloomer and hasn't fully unlocked their intuitive drive yet. In the case of multiple powers, only prompts that contain the power you choose for your application will count as potential game canon threads.
  • While only one character can be apped or reserved during a cycle, feel free to post with more than one character if you like! This is for those who are uncertain of their first choice or who would like to try out different characters within the setting.
  • Prompts A and B take place on the island above Aimintas, so in-game characters can only utilize these prompts if they know how to get here or you can handwave how they would get there. It's not that deep.

    WORLD ONE: AIMINTAS

You blink and that's all it takes. At first the picture doesn't come in clear, like you're waiting for a screen to fully load -- more aptly, it's like you're waiting for a camera to focus so you can find image clarity. Before you happened to rapidly close your eyes and open them, your life was normal...well, normal for you, anyway. Fighting an alien, making a quesadilla, dying. And then that blurry picture suddenly takes over...

One point of implant is a sandy beach, next to an ocean shore. This may not be that abnormal to you, but there is a point of interest -- there is a huge, pulsating cube that lies inland, covering most of the island. There's about a mile stretch of land surrounding the cube's sides that is forested and sandy, but that's it.

There is the ocean, though the tide is very choppy. Characters may be able to swim across...or can they?

A ▢ Want to take a dip in the ocean? If you're so inclined, be careful -- the currents are strong and can quickly suck your character under if you aren't careful enough. There ARE boats on the shore, and you can also utilize these as a means of escape. Your character will just have to hope there's someone around to help them if they land in trouble!

B ▢ Some other characters may be checking out the island, so there's a chance your characters aren't alone on this mysterious island! If you ask them where you are, your character can take a magical journey to their real destination. Hope they aren't afraid of water travel.

The more fortunate potential coven members -- or those who made it from the island to Aimintas -- are located in the marketplace. There they'll be introduced to the Palai, their strange cultures and attitudes, as well as renewed excitement at the new members. There's getting to be so many coven members that they won't immediately recognize new additions from the old guard, but they're hospitable creatures anyway.

C ▢ The Palai have recently become interested in weaponry, especially weapons powered by Elto energy magic. There are still Palai youth who haven't learned their lesson from the coven celebration, running around and shooting characters with magical slingshots in an effort to be mischevious.

The newer development, though, is that the older Palai are also trying to get in on practicing using weaponry. Because they aren't totally sure who are new coven members and who has been here for a while, a Palai might challenge you to a duel. Will you take this as a threat, or the friendly scrimmage that it's intended to be?

D ▢ The Eltos are being utilized more and more for technological advancements, and while the Palai have failed at flying machines, they are trying to work on other, newer forms of transportation. They're still in the early stages of development, and they're looking to create transportation modes outside of the objects young Elto magic in an effort to have fun and play.

However, this requires some experimentation. Characters may find that certain items they touch immediately become motile, from pens that lunge forward and propel their holder through the air, to rugs that become magic carpets once they're stepped on. To everyone else: watch out!

E ▢ Despite the recent death of some Palai, the Palai "mating season" is beginning soon -- while their mating season syncs up with their past life as wild creatures, this is more so like a two week long Valentine's Day for their species. Palai are very much invested in family and relationships, and they haven't let go of pushing this belief onto coven members.

While their ideal family unit is three beings, they're willing to take baby steps. Your character has suddenly been grabbed and sat next to another character and the questions begin. The Palai matchmaker begins with this one: "What do you look for in an ideal partner?"

The land of Aimintas recently experienced some salty rainfall -- actually that's still going on for some reason. When will it stop? Nobody knows.

Because their resources may be limited while new harvesting methods are implemented, the Palai have to limit their use of vegetables, fruits and grains as the ones currently planted may be too damaged by salt water to be used. This has caused some changes to the Aimintas marketplace, reflecting the food rationing.

F ▢ The smart Palai have actually been saving up some of those dead fish that were falling out of the sky. Don't worry, they've been properly iced. The food being sold around the marketplace will focus on this fish, though they do need some characters to help prep the fish, including removing the scales and deboning the fish. Is your character good with a knife?

G ▢ Alternatively, Palai chefs have been experimenting with a complete line of fish delicacies. From fish sandwiches to fish brownies, your character will likely be asked to try a nasty ass fish something or other. Unless they're into that kind of thing, it's going to be hard to swallow -- but the Palai hope your character likes their new foods!

H ▢ Wildcard prompt. Go nuts and utilize your own creativity within the setting. This can mean striking out on your own or utilizing a certain location in a different way. The world is your oyster!

    Scáthach × Fate/Grand Order

    [personal profile] muinteoir 2017-08-21 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
    A

[ Scáthach can be found by the boats, examining them in silence. It's kind of a cold regard, the sort that comes from someone that knows well about a subject. She's not interested on socializing just yet, nor to start rounding in on a crew (she can handle a boat herself, thank you ver much) but she's aware some people might be both stupid and unskilled enough to take to the sea by themselves and end up drowning.

Such a waste o lf potential isn't something she can overlook.

The chosen vessel is a yacht of sorts. Medium sized, sky blue and built for speed, perfect for her to get around and maybe even pluck some poor devils from the waters. Things "up there" seem to be a dead end, so Scáthach decides that down is the way to go. She'll figure it out in due time.
    ]

A shame though. The beach looks rather inviting.

    C

[ For what probably feels like ten minutes, Scáthach stares blankly at the creature pointing what looks like some sort of rifle at her. It actually takes her a moment to realize the being here wants to spar.

A barely visible smile tugs at her lips as she sighs.
    ]

    No. I would destroy you.

[ No potential in this one. She won't break him (him?) for the sake of proving herself wrong. Some lessons aren't necessary to teach. ]

Go and find someone more on you level. Leave me be, now.

    WILDCARD

[ Come to sensei, yo. ]

[ jude watches this exchange with a curious look in his eyes before he wanders over. ]

You know, you could just go easy on him.

[ There is a moment of silence when the woman seems to consider this. It doesn't last long though. ]

There is only so much I can do before it becomes an insult to both him and myself. This one's abilities will never amount to much, no where combat is concerned. To even entertain the idea...

[ Scáthach sighs and waves the creature away, although that's not really working. ]

It would be cruel beyond words.

    [personal profile] talim 2017-08-21 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
But it really looks like he just wants to play...

[ he rakes a hand through his hair and rubs at the back of his neck, offering her a crooked smile. ]

C'mon, can't you lighten up a little? I don't think it'd be cruel to humor him for a little while. No harm done.

I'm the wrong kind of person to ask for games.

[ It's not that she doesn't want to, but she literally has no idea of where to begin. If she were to try and play with him, Scáthach would probably end up giving him a German Suplex or something. ]

If you insist so much, perhaps you should partake, mister...?

[ That's the cue for revealing yourself, stranger. ]
    talim: (pic#9332489)

    [personal profile] talim 2017-08-21 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[ he takes the cue. he's too young to be called mister. ]

    Just call me Jude.

[ jude shakes his head, but he still crouches down to meet the palai's height and speak to him. ]

I'm probably not the best person to spar with. I don't even have a weapon on me.

[ he is not going to use his fists against a kid? thanks? jude glances up at scáthach from his place beneath her and shrugs his shoulders. in this case, he's just about as helpless as she is. ]

    [personal profile] muinteoir 2017-08-21 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
    Scáthach.

[ Just imagine she also said "nice to meet you" or even tried to sound amicable, Jude. Scathy isn't the most naturally candid person. ]

    Can you handle a lance?

[ This is a bad idea, you just just go away while you can dude. Scáthach is only now starting to actually look at Jude. ]
    talim: do not take (pic#10683680)

    [personal profile] talim 2017-08-22 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Um... Well. I've never exactly... held one? Why do you ask?

[ he has a feeling he knows the answer to that question. ]

Don't tell me you want me to...

[ he's eyeing her lance with definite suspicion. ]

    [personal profile] muinteoir 2017-08-22 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
[ Well yeah. The red, shiny lance that wasn't there a moment ago but now it almost seems to glow like a glaring red streak. Scáthach lifts it to look at the large blade at the end. ]

I sense some magical aptitude in you, but without proper training you won't be able to bring about its true power. It would be bad if you did.

[ The thing can reverse causality to always pierce its target's heart, after all. ]

But maybe we should find you something safer, all the same.
    talim: do not take (pic#10683697)

    [personal profile] talim 2017-08-22 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
I have a high amount of experience with mana, but I don't see what that has to do with wielding a lance.

[ he cocks his head to the side and rises back up from the ground in order to level with her again, eye to eye. ]

    Okay, so... two things.

[ jude clears his throat. ]

First of all, you never gave me your name, you know. And secondly... just what is this true power you're referring to? Is that the reason why you don't want to take any risks here?

[ because that will clear some things up. ]

... Yeah, safer might not be a bad idea.

    [personal profile] muinteoir 2017-08-22 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Not the same kind, for what I can tell.

My name is Scáthach. [ She's ready for it to mean nothing to him. It's all for the better. She doesn't like the fame that comes with being her. ]

It kills without fail. That's all you need to know. Let us find you something more on your level.
    talim: (9.)

    [personal profile] talim 2017-08-22 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
[ she's right. it doesn't mean anything to him. there was no scáthach in the history books back home. ]

... Okay. And where do you suggest we find that?

[ there's just one minor problem: it escapes both their notice that the palai has long since grown bored and started wandering off in search of others who might humor him. congrats, this conversation is essentially pointless. ]
    whiteknightling: (sure i almost died)

Oh, I don't know! [Out of all the livery of being a knight, Zaratras never really found any fun in shaming his peers. If anything, the growth of others around him filled him with pride--even if he spent his fair share complaining that they could stand to work a little harder. He had been in the middle of oiling his sword, readying himself to test out the weapons with the intriguing locals.]

It may be misleading how strong they can be, young lady. [Though, if he were asked frankly, Zaratras would be hard-pressed to conclude that he was helping them test their weapons and his mettle for the sake of it. He was in it for the fish pie he was promised earlier after vehemently denying them for being too needy and attention-grabbing.]

I have a good eye for this sort of thing.

[ She has two very nice, very red eyes and thousands of years of experience training warriors to know a thing or two, really.

So when someone comes and puts that in doubt (even if indirectly) she can't help but be a bit annoyed.
    ]

If you think you can do it though, do not let me get in your way.
    whiteknightling: (breathe)

    [personal profile] whiteknightling 2017-08-22 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I certainly hope I can. [There was little one could do at that moment but get caught up in that crimson gaze and yet, Zaratras only managed to smile with the utmost of peace and satisfaction. While one might have taken it as a truly brave moment, the majority of the ease in his posture and demeanor had to do with the fish pie he was being promised. Scathach would have frozen most people solid with that gaze but Zaratras had already witnessed the Prince of Darkness firsthand. It was still a hot bath but he had no room to complain about the burn that time around.

The rest of it came as he sat up and straightened his arm, rolling his joints before shifting into a proper swordsman's posture. Bits of lightning rolled off of the blade of his sword, turning over and touching him with no perceptible effect--until he sneezed and whined, holding one hand over his mouth.]

    Bah! I bit my tongue!

    He, too, was a moron.

    [ She fondly says? ]
    whiteknightling: (excuse me)

[There had been a few moments of groaning on Zaratras' end as he checked to see if his tongue had been bloodied. When he was done, he looked over the crowd and Scathach alike and, almost weakly, he continued--]

Please, don't compare me to children, miss. This is only a very minor misstep...
