( TDM | #2 )

  • IMPORTANT: This TDM takes place on the current world the coven is part of. Please read the linked Google Doc about the world AND be aware that the world is high-frequency, meaning canon magic and powers can be used.
  • TDMs can be used for anyone interested in the game and/or testing out a new muse.
  • Test Drive samples are encouraged to be used for your application sample, though they are NOT a requirement.
  • Feel free to use one prompt, multiple prompts or make up your own!
  • These threads can be considered game canon upon game opening if you so choose.
  • Telepathy and magic can be used at any point in time on the TDM, from Prompt A to your wildcard prompt. A specific prompt exists, however, that makes sure all characters have an equal chance to use this mechanic within the TDM. You're encouraged to have characters use telepathy and their magic accidentally or even purposefully on any TDM prompt.
  • If you aren't set on your character's power yet or want to try out a few, you're still able to use the test drive. Maybe your character is a late bloomer and hasn't fully unlocked their intuitive drive yet. In the case of multiple powers, only prompts that contain the power you choose for your application will count as potential game canon threads.
  • While only one character can be apped or reserved during a cycle, feel free to post with more than one character if you like! This is for those who are uncertain of their first choice or who would like to try out different characters within the setting.

    WORLD ONE: AIMINTAS

You blink and that's all it takes. At first the picture doesn't come in clear, like you're waiting for a screen to fully load -- more aptly, it's like you're waiting for a camera to focus so you can find image clarity. Before you happened to rapidly close your eyes and open them, your life was normal...well, normal for you, anyway. Fighting an alien, making a quesadilla, dying. And then that blurry picture suddenly takes over...

Some of you might open your eyes to find yourself wandering around a sandy area, outside of a large stone house. There's a large glimmering caravan floating around outside, which might intrigue you. There's also a lot of supplies, food, clothing...all just laying around outside. It's worth investigating, right?

A ▢ Your character has found themselves arriving right outside the coven's new digs in Aimintas, and there's a lot of confusing stuff to look at. Th ocean in the sky, that floating caravan...your character probably can't get to that ocean, so they may want to examine the caravan. If they touch it, they'll immediately regret that decision -- the caravan has its own defense mechanism, and you can pick one or the other:

        - A1: Once your character touches the caravan, they can't remove their appendage from it. Kick it? Their foot is stuck. Touch it? Their hand is stuck. Lick it? Their tongue is stuck. They'll remain like this for 15 minutes without magical intervention.
        - A2: Your character's hand doesn't stay for long, but the caravan holds onto that hand for five seconds while giving your character a pretty excruciating burn. Medic!

B ▢ Maybe they're smart and they don't touch the caravan. Let's go through all of this cool stuff on the ground! It might be sort of obvious that it belongs to someone -- a lot of someone's -- but your character is thirsty, confused...maybe there's some water or answers in this pile. And maybe there's also someone who catches your character going through their shit.

Other new potential coven members will find themselves in a completely different part of town. These lucky individuals will have suddenly appeared in the marketplace area of Aimintas, surrounded by walking lizard beings that suddenly turn and take an immediate interest in this stranger.

C ▢ The Palai are very interested in the new coven members, and a new humanoid person -- or anyone that doesn't look like them -- will immediately catch their attention. They'll immediately find your character worth of their undivided attention, talking to them about coven-related things...pretty confusing right? If you need help with the short lizard folk, maybe someone will eventually arrive to help you out.

On the other hand, you might learn something interesting talking to them. A friend might join in either way!

D ▢ Once you break free of the Palai, you'll find that this marketplace is pretty interesting. It's a mixture of primitive and semi-modern technology...or is it totally unfamiliar to you? Never seen a cellphone before? Unfamiliar with the concept of women wearing pants? There's certainly something to see that'll interest your character here.

E ▢ Finally, you might be hungry and thirsty after suddenly appearing. The Palai are masters of making food, including a new concoction of theirs that they're trying out in honor of all the new people. It's a sort of bottled fruit juice that has been energized by the Eltos. It's essentially the first Aimintas Red Bull, except on acid. The drink immediately makes anyone who drinks it extremely giddy, hyper and they may potentially hallucinate. It doesn't seem to bother the Palai's biology, but everyone else...oops!

The setting found in Aimintas is pretty expansive, so you have a lot of room to wander around. Here are a few things that might catch your eye if you're really committed to wandering around.

F ▢ A house near the marketplace is incredibly special to the Palai people. Characters who wander near here will find a group of Palai who are even more excited about their new visitors: baby Palai. Some are still in eggs and kept inside, but the juvenile Palai are about two feet tall, rowdy and want to play with these new, bipedal creatures. Some of them still crawl around on all fours and are more lizard-like than others. Hope you're good with kids!

G ▢ The Palai have constructed a large library in the middle of town. If you wander in here, you'll find a myriad of books in a strange language. The Palai are a rather visual people, though, so many include pictures and illustrations. They also have a collection of computers here that connect to the Aimintas internet, as well as visual media stations that can play videos -- though they're really just powered tablets that play video files. Time to get a little taste of the Palai culture.

H ▢ Wildcard prompt. Go nuts and utilize your own creativity within the setting. This can mean striking out on your own or utilizing a certain location in a different way. The world is your oyster!

Sanaki | Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn

    [personal profile] holy_smoly 2017-07-25 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
    A1

[In her own world, the last thing Sanaki can allow herself to do, ever, is show weakness. Not only would it tarnish the image of the holy Apostle in the eyes of her people, it would be an opening to take advantage of for who knows how many of the backstabbing snakes that make up half her government. So she has a certain philosophy to problem solving:

The first step is not admitting you have a problem.

She had been curious about the caravan, of course. She has one not entirely unlike it at home, and if she was going to be lost in a strange location, of course she should be to announce heself to the closest thing she has to an equal. And make it clear that as the empress of Begnion she will be treated with more respect than this from now on.

But... her hand is stuck. She'd already looked around to see if anyone was watching before trying and failing to yank it free, and shouting for help was obviously not an option, so... here she is. Standing here. Trying to look like she's leaning against it on purpose. She can do a hell of a nonchalant expression, but after a solid ten minutes of wondering how she's going to get out of this, it's starting to look a bit forced.

    Her arm is getting tired.]

    C

[Sanaki can handle an adoring crowd. Sure, normally she would have an entourage of boydguards, but she doesn't always appreciate being flanked by babysitters amyway. It... does leave her feeling a bit more exposed than she's used to, though. Some of these lizard people don't have much respect for personal space. She's not too concerned about their species; she's reasonably sure they're not laguz, but she has worked out that this is a different world by now. Mostly, she just needs to set the record straight.]

Enough! I accept that you have questions, but know that you stand in the presence of Sanaki Kirsch Altina, Apostle of the Begnion Empire! My own subjects are expected to kneel before addressing me directly, and I make no exceptions for you.

[...And within a few minutes, she's successfully filtered the curious mob for people who are willing to kowtow to a bossy thirteen-year-old in sufficiently expensive-looking robes. There are more than you might expect in any given crowd; she's very bossy. Sanaki still has a circle of Palai around her, respectfully listening to her explain what she knows about magic. Granted, she has no idea what they mean about a coven, but she is an accomplished mage in her own world...]

[If Robin hadn't been in the area for something else, he wouldn't have thought it was weird. But a few minutes later, when he heads back the way he came and Sanaki is still in exactly the same place that she was when he first arrived, he figures something is up.]

    You look pretty relaxed.

[His tone makes it apparent that she does not look pretty relaxed.]

[Did she see this same man walk past a moment ago? ...Yes, there's a certain shabby quality she recognizes. Damn. How inconsiderate. And on top of being here, he has the gall to interrogate her? She angles her head slightly, as though it were possible to physically look down on someone taller than her.]

I am... deep in thought. I simply have a naturally serene bearing that may have misled you.
guerrilla: (so what? you've had one too many)

    [personal profile] guerrilla 2017-07-26 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
    Uh-huh.

[He hasn't figured out exactly what the problem is here yet, but now he has to find out.]

So what were you thinking about so hard, kiddo? It must be pretty important if you're so deep in thought you haven't moved.
    holy_smoly: (The crown weighs heavy)

    [personal profile] holy_smoly 2017-07-26 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
First of all: do not call me "kiddo." You may address me as Apostle Sanaki.

[If looks could kill, she wouldn't be able to hit him harder with Rexflame.]

Secondly, I have many responsibilities worthy of careful meditation. In fact, I was waiting in a quiet place to hear the voice of the goddess, before you interrupted.

[That ought to set this ruffian straight, and it's only about 66% lie. She has been worrying about what's going on in Begnion in her absence. And how to get her blasted hand off this thing.]
    guerrilla: (for all the yelling)

    [personal profile] guerrilla 2017-07-26 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
[who is this sassy lost child]

...Let me guess, the goddess only speaks to you?

[Time for a spelling bee, kids! The word Robin's thinking of is..."charlatan"!]
    holy_smoly: (HOW DARE YOU)

    [personal profile] holy_smoly 2017-07-26 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
What do you think? As Apostle, I am the conduit that connects the goddess to the earthly realm! Who are you, and how dare you speak to me this way?

[Talking to people like this was easier back home, where she had a personal army. She wouldn't ACTUALLY have him executed for doubting her, but she's not above implying she would.]
    guerrilla: (cynical; adjective.)

    [personal profile] guerrilla 2017-07-26 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Then did the goddess tell you to stand there all stiff like that? She should know better than to wear out her poor apostle's muscles like that, especially if they still haven't grown up yet. You'll stunt your growth, Apostle Shortstack.

[That at least begins with the same letter as Sanaki. Close enough.]
    holy_smoly: (PREPARE YOURSELVES PEASANTS)

    [personal profile] holy_smoly 2017-07-26 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmph! Whoever you are, I hope whatever petty satisfaction you take in being rude is worth becoming an enemy of Begnion itself. When I find a way to contact the Holy Guard...

[She'll. What? Tattle on him? Sanaki doesn't take kindly to this kind of disrespect, but she knows how to stop digging. She takes a deep breath and fixes him with a renewed icy glare.]

At any rate, there will be consequences. Fortunately for you, you've proven your profound ignorance, so I will consider showing leniency. I must think on this. [Here, in this perfectly comfortable position.]

Never heard of it. I'm pretty good at avoiding consequences, though, so don't feel like you need to be nice on my account. I sort of have a history of pissing important people off, so I'm used to it.

[He holds a hand up to about her height.]

You're the smallest one I've ever seen, though. It's pretty funny.

[She's precocious, though. It's honestly kind of imoressive.]
    holy_smoly: (I'm listening.)

    [personal profile] holy_smoly 2017-07-27 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Only important people? I find that difficult to believe. Though I suppose if a procession of half-hearted barbs about my height are your idea of wit, you don't have much going for you aside from sheer audacity.

[Sanaki wants to test to see if her hand is free now. She's never had to actually slap someone before, but you have to start somewhere. Unfortunately, if she's still stuck, tugging on it is a sure way to let him know. And she's far past any chance of giving this insufferable hooligan the satisfaction.]

    c. O SHIT A SANAKI

    [personal profile] midorijuana 2017-07-26 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
[ midori, among the crowd, may not stand out from the green beans at first glance (as she herself is a green bean), but if sanaki didn't notice the presence of a human before, she definitely will once the majority of the palai are bowing down while she remains standing. she's very confused. what the heck is a begnion?

but she's PRETTY SURE sanaki is a Big Deal based on the way she carries herself and her title. midori raises her hand and promptly asks a question before even being noticed anyway. ]

Erm, apostle? Is that another name for apothecary? ... Midori is an apothecary, as well!
    holy_smoly: (I'm fine. Apostles don't get hurt.)

    YO WHAT'S GOOD

    [personal profile] holy_smoly 2017-07-26 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
    I--

[Sanaki is on a roll by the time Midori speaks up, but as she opens her mouth to deliver another firm decree, she falters. This is, actually, a new one on her. She's been mistaken for an ordinary child before, but never after explaining who she was. If there's one thing even Sanaki's worst enemies have reaffirmed for her, it's that her position is the most important one in the world. This is a bit like having to explain sunlight to someone.]

Er... no. I am not an apothecary. I am--an empress, but more. Important?

[Oh goddess she's losing the crowd, what did this girl do.]

I... I speak on behalf of the goddess Ashera! That's what the word apostle means.
    midorijuana: (pic#11595434)

    [personal profile] midorijuana 2017-07-26 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
More important than an empress?! Representative of a goddess?! [ oh geez, she gets why everyone's been bowing now! she feels like a real idiot. ] Oh, gods, Midori is so sorry she's disrespected you! [ oh no, she can feel it. the tears... they are coming...!! ]

Please forgive me, Empress-Queen-Apostle Sanaki of Ben-young!
    holy_smoly: (Fascinating.)

    [personal profile] holy_smoly 2017-07-26 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, that's... that's better. Aside from the crying. Making other young girls cry is never a great look for an empress. Sanaki clears her throat. She'll have to de-escalate the conversation.]

That is quite enough. I of course recognize that under the circumstances, you could not have known who you were speaking to. As long as you behave with the proper decorum in the future, I bear no grudge.

...Also, "Apostle" will do. And it's pronounced... no, nevermind, I suppose that was close enough.

[ camilla had no problem with discretely ignoring most other people punished for getting to close to the caravan with the strange magic, gods know she couldn't abandon a cute little child so easily. it wasn't too difficult to see past the girl's strained and forced indifference; she's seen it in her own face at times, and in her oldest brother xander's as well. ]

You poor dear. Are you alright? You aren't in pain, are you?

[ she isn't completely sure how long the girl has been stuck like this, but she knows it's only a matter of time. how much time though?? hell if she knows. ]

[By this point, Sanaki has accepted that nobody is going to recognize her. She's just going to have to weather a certain amount of being treated like a lost child (just because she's lost, and a child. It's not fair at all), so she'll try to do so with grace. Also, if this woman can tell at a glance that she's stuck, she might have experience with unsticking people. Sanaki's not going to deign to ask for help, but actively chasing her off would probably not be smart.

Still, she can't suppress a subtly visible twinge of irritation in her eyes. "Poor dear." Of all the...]

I am... quite fine, thank you. Can I assume you have some knowledge of this caravan?
