( TDM | #2 )

  • IMPORTANT: This TDM takes place on the current world the coven is part of. Please read the linked Google Doc about the world AND be aware that the world is high-frequency, meaning canon magic and powers can be used.
  • TDMs can be used for anyone interested in the game and/or testing out a new muse.
  • Test Drive samples are encouraged to be used for your application sample, though they are NOT a requirement.
  • Feel free to use one prompt, multiple prompts or make up your own!
  • These threads can be considered game canon upon game opening if you so choose.
  • Telepathy and magic can be used at any point in time on the TDM, from Prompt A to your wildcard prompt. A specific prompt exists, however, that makes sure all characters have an equal chance to use this mechanic within the TDM. You're encouraged to have characters use telepathy and their magic accidentally or even purposefully on any TDM prompt.
  • If you aren't set on your character's power yet or want to try out a few, you're still able to use the test drive. Maybe your character is a late bloomer and hasn't fully unlocked their intuitive drive yet. In the case of multiple powers, only prompts that contain the power you choose for your application will count as potential game canon threads.
  • While only one character can be apped or reserved during a cycle, feel free to post with more than one character if you like! This is for those who are uncertain of their first choice or who would like to try out different characters within the setting.

    WORLD ONE: AIMINTAS

You blink and that's all it takes. At first the picture doesn't come in clear, like you're waiting for a screen to fully load -- more aptly, it's like you're waiting for a camera to focus so you can find image clarity. Before you happened to rapidly close your eyes and open them, your life was normal...well, normal for you, anyway. Fighting an alien, making a quesadilla, dying. And then that blurry picture suddenly takes over...

Some of you might open your eyes to find yourself wandering around a sandy area, outside of a large stone house. There's a large glimmering caravan floating around outside, which might intrigue you. There's also a lot of supplies, food, clothing...all just laying around outside. It's worth investigating, right?

A ▢ Your character has found themselves arriving right outside the coven's new digs in Aimintas, and there's a lot of confusing stuff to look at. Th ocean in the sky, that floating caravan...your character probably can't get to that ocean, so they may want to examine the caravan. If they touch it, they'll immediately regret that decision -- the caravan has its own defense mechanism, and you can pick one or the other:

        - A1: Once your character touches the caravan, they can't remove their appendage from it. Kick it? Their foot is stuck. Touch it? Their hand is stuck. Lick it? Their tongue is stuck. They'll remain like this for 15 minutes without magical intervention.
        - A2: Your character's hand doesn't stay for long, but the caravan holds onto that hand for five seconds while giving your character a pretty excruciating burn. Medic!

B ▢ Maybe they're smart and they don't touch the caravan. Let's go through all of this cool stuff on the ground! It might be sort of obvious that it belongs to someone -- a lot of someone's -- but your character is thirsty, confused...maybe there's some water or answers in this pile. And maybe there's also someone who catches your character going through their shit.

Other new potential coven members will find themselves in a completely different part of town. These lucky individuals will have suddenly appeared in the marketplace area of Aimintas, surrounded by walking lizard beings that suddenly turn and take an immediate interest in this stranger.

C ▢ The Palai are very interested in the new coven members, and a new humanoid person -- or anyone that doesn't look like them -- will immediately catch their attention. They'll immediately find your character worth of their undivided attention, talking to them about coven-related things...pretty confusing right? If you need help with the short lizard folk, maybe someone will eventually arrive to help you out.

On the other hand, you might learn something interesting talking to them. A friend might join in either way!

D ▢ Once you break free of the Palai, you'll find that this marketplace is pretty interesting. It's a mixture of primitive and semi-modern technology...or is it totally unfamiliar to you? Never seen a cellphone before? Unfamiliar with the concept of women wearing pants? There's certainly something to see that'll interest your character here.

E ▢ Finally, you might be hungry and thirsty after suddenly appearing. The Palai are masters of making food, including a new concoction of theirs that they're trying out in honor of all the new people. It's a sort of bottled fruit juice that has been energized by the Eltos. It's essentially the first Aimintas Red Bull, except on acid. The drink immediately makes anyone who drinks it extremely giddy, hyper and they may potentially hallucinate. It doesn't seem to bother the Palai's biology, but everyone else...oops!

The setting found in Aimintas is pretty expansive, so you have a lot of room to wander around. Here are a few things that might catch your eye if you're really committed to wandering around.

F ▢ A house near the marketplace is incredibly special to the Palai people. Characters who wander near here will find a group of Palai who are even more excited about their new visitors: baby Palai. Some are still in eggs and kept inside, but the juvenile Palai are about two feet tall, rowdy and want to play with these new, bipedal creatures. Some of them still crawl around on all fours and are more lizard-like than others. Hope you're good with kids!

G ▢ The Palai have constructed a large library in the middle of town. If you wander in here, you'll find a myriad of books in a strange language. The Palai are a rather visual people, though, so many include pictures and illustrations. They also have a collection of computers here that connect to the Aimintas internet, as well as visual media stations that can play videos -- though they're really just powered tablets that play video files. Time to get a little taste of the Palai culture.

H ▢ Wildcard prompt. Go nuts and utilize your own creativity within the setting. This can mean striking out on your own or utilizing a certain location in a different way. The world is your oyster!

[Oh. A bristly girl, okay. He stays on the ground watching for a moment to get a read on her, his own expression calm if but a touch intrigued. However, there's a hand extended to him and before Weiss can really register it, the laptop seemingly disappears as he takes her hand and rises to his feet.]

Thanks. [There's a grin and he immediately lets go after that, rubbing the back of his head from where he may have landed thanks to the laptop.] But don't worry too much. It's probably your new power, right? All of us have them now which is a little strange, but you'll learn to get better! ...well, probably.
    glyphic: (SMILE ❄ genuine)

    [personal profile] glyphic 2017-07-23 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
[ WHAT WAS EVEN THAT SEMBLANCE but okay then. ]

I suppose it must be. [ qrow PROBABLY eventually explained, or someone else did. ] I seem to be able to change the weight of things in a certain area?

[ if she sounds uncertain that's because she is. not everyone gets strips of paper saying exactly what their powers are, SADLY...! ]
    windeity: (GRIN ♫ windsock)

    [personal profile] windeity 2017-07-23 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
Either that or your power is trying to crush people which would be just as good, if not a little dangerous. [He's mostly teasing because he's curious and finds the power to be of interest.] But I think that's a safe bet. Does that mean you could maybe make things lighter, too? Usually our powers work in a couple of ways as long as you think of how to apply them.
glyphic: (WELL ❄ if we're being serious)

    [personal profile] glyphic 2017-07-23 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
I can, although that one seems a little - well. I made someone hit their head earlier, on accident.

[ GESTURES TO AN AWNING, LOOKING EMBARRASSED.

spoilers: the "someone" was her. oh my god. ]

It's not much like what I'm used to, admittedly. It's like learning...an entirely new Semblance, all over again. But does that mean you have a "magic ability" as well?
windeity: (GRIN ♫ casual as fuck)

    [personal profile] windeity 2017-07-23 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
Ouch. [There's a short chuckle, but he understands.] It takes some time to get used to, especially if you have powers wherever you're from. Which...it sounds like you do? Since I have no idea what a Semblance is.

[Please explain.] But yeah, I do. Everybody in the "coven" seems to have one no matter if we had abilities before that or not. This is the first time in almost two weeks that we've been able to use our normal abilities and our new magic at the same time. Everyone's is different though.
    glyphic: (STAND ❄ calmly)

    [personal profile] glyphic 2017-07-23 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, right. [ not everyone is from the same world, right. ] A Semblance is the manifestation of your aura...that is to say, your soul. What it is, exactly, varies from person to person. My partner - my former partner can use speed, and our teammates have strength that manifests when she takes hits for one and the ability to create doppelgangers for the other. My own Semblance is Glyphs, which - well, they do a lot of things, depending.

    [ thanks rwby. ]

But can I ask what it is your ability is? How long did it take you to master?
windeity: (EMBARRASSED ♫ yeah about that?)

    [personal profile] windeity 2017-07-23 12:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[The way he understands it is about on par with how he understands aspects, really. Something that is a manifestation of their roles in the game and unique to all of them. But they can build off of each other. Glyphs sound like a different kind of magic though, versatile and flexible and he nods along as she explains.]

You might want to get really used to manipulating gravity. If you're one of us now you may not have access to your glyphs after a while. But I think I would like to see them later? They sound different than things I've seen.

As for my ability...I can fuse stuff together. [There's an awkward smile though.] And I am still trying to fully master it. But I'm getting a lot better!
    glyphic: (ARMS ❄ crossed)

    [personal profile] glyphic 2017-07-23 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
    [ fuse things together? ]

Like...stick a person to a caravan, for example?

    [ WAS THAT YOU ]
windeity: (CHINHANDS ♫ ah I see)

    [personal profile] windeity 2017-07-23 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
    [Eheheh...]

As funny as that is, I cannot take responsibility for that. I'm not sure what happened since Genette let us into the caravan before.
    glyphic: (STARTLE ❄ oh noooooo)

    [personal profile] glyphic 2017-07-23 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It may really have been anti-theft magic, then - but I'm not a thief!

    [ OFFENDED ]
windeity: (GRIN ♫ like a smug asshole)

    [personal profile] windeity 2017-07-24 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Are you sure about that? We just met and I don't even know your name. You could be a very clever thief and we wouldn't even know it.
glyphic: (WELL ❄ if we're being serious)

    [personal profile] glyphic 2017-07-24 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
If I were a thief, I would be a clever one. However, I am not! I'm Weiss Schnee - and I don't know your name, either.
    windeity: (CHINHANDS ♫ with interest)

    [personal profile] windeity 2017-07-24 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if a clever thief would admit to being a clever thief in the first place. Where's your stealth? [But he commits the name to memory and...holds out a hand? Weiss, do you do handshakes.] But I'm John. Egbert, I guess, since we are apparently doing last names, too.
    glyphic: (STAND ❄ calmly)

    [personal profile] glyphic 2017-07-24 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[ SHE...CAN DO HANDSHAKES SHE SUPPOSES! so ok. ]

Family names are important. [ can't take the schnee name back if she doesn't constantly OWN IT ]
    windeity: (INTEREST ♫ spider-john)

    [personal profile] windeity 2017-07-24 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah? What exactly is important about them? [But okay there's a handshake and he seems genuinely curious about that. Egbert isn't of importance, really, and with the mess that is his ecto-fam it doesn't matter much in that regard either.]
glyphic: (WELL ❄ if we're being serious)

    [personal profile] glyphic 2017-07-27 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
They tell where you come from...more than that, if your family, for example, runs a company using the family name...isn't it important that the name mean something respectable and trustworthy?
    windeity: (GAZE ♫ skywards)

    [personal profile] windeity 2017-07-27 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that would depend on what the company represents. [He's trying not to make a face, but it's hard to forget that in another timeline his name is John Crocker and he's related to the Batterwitch.] What if it's something you don't want to be associated with? Is the name still important?
    glyphic: (ARMS ❄ crossed)

    [personal profile] glyphic 2017-07-28 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course it is! My grandfather founded my family's company. [ SUDDENLY LESS HYPOTHETICAL ] I absolutely refuse to let the Schnee name go down in history as anything less than worthy of what it was when he did so!
    windeity: (NEUTRAL ♫ he tried)

    [personal profile] windeity 2017-07-29 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. One of those cases. [There's a nod then.] You would not be the first person to do something like that, so I guess it makes enough sense. But then how are you going to do something like that?

[...nah.] Maybe it doesn't matter since you're probably stuck here now with the rest of us.
    glyphic: (ARMS ❄ crossed)

    [personal profile] glyphic 2017-07-30 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
    It absolutely still matters!!!!!!

    [ GOSH ]
windeity: (SMIRK ♫ how do you like me now?)

    [personal profile] windeity 2017-07-30 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
    [Sorry, he's laughing?]

Okay, sure. It definitely matters even more than figuring out your gravity thing. I get it.
    glyphic: (CALM ❄ watching)

    [personal profile] glyphic 2017-07-31 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
    I can multitask!

[ maybe. she can MAYBE multitask. ]

Er...is there anything else I should know about this place, anyway?
    windeity: (LISTLESS ♫ goofing off)

    [personal profile] windeity 2017-08-03 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that depends on what you know already. You've heard about the coven and whatever, our powers are not the same as they should be...and the whole "we need to help get magic back for Qri" thing, right?
    glyphic: (STAND ❄ calmly)

    [personal profile] glyphic 2017-08-05 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't heard much about this "Qri", no...but my sources were less concerned with coherent reports than they were with needling me.
    windeity: (GAZE ♫ thoughtful)

    [personal profile] windeity 2017-08-05 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
Your sourc--you mean the Palai? They're not exactly the most helpful people around. No offense to them, they are doing their best, but they are way too easily impressed.
