( TDM | #2 )

  • IMPORTANT: This TDM takes place on the current world the coven is part of. Please read the linked Google Doc about the world AND be aware that the world is high-frequency, meaning canon magic and powers can be used.
  • TDMs can be used for anyone interested in the game and/or testing out a new muse.
  • Test Drive samples are encouraged to be used for your application sample, though they are NOT a requirement.
  • Feel free to use one prompt, multiple prompts or make up your own!
  • These threads can be considered game canon upon game opening if you so choose.
  • Telepathy and magic can be used at any point in time on the TDM, from Prompt A to your wildcard prompt. A specific prompt exists, however, that makes sure all characters have an equal chance to use this mechanic within the TDM. You're encouraged to have characters use telepathy and their magic accidentally or even purposefully on any TDM prompt.
  • If you aren't set on your character's power yet or want to try out a few, you're still able to use the test drive. Maybe your character is a late bloomer and hasn't fully unlocked their intuitive drive yet. In the case of multiple powers, only prompts that contain the power you choose for your application will count as potential game canon threads.
  • While only one character can be apped or reserved during a cycle, feel free to post with more than one character if you like! This is for those who are uncertain of their first choice or who would like to try out different characters within the setting.

    WORLD ONE: AIMINTAS

You blink and that's all it takes. At first the picture doesn't come in clear, like you're waiting for a screen to fully load -- more aptly, it's like you're waiting for a camera to focus so you can find image clarity. Before you happened to rapidly close your eyes and open them, your life was normal...well, normal for you, anyway. Fighting an alien, making a quesadilla, dying. And then that blurry picture suddenly takes over...

Some of you might open your eyes to find yourself wandering around a sandy area, outside of a large stone house. There's a large glimmering caravan floating around outside, which might intrigue you. There's also a lot of supplies, food, clothing...all just laying around outside. It's worth investigating, right?

A ▢ Your character has found themselves arriving right outside the coven's new digs in Aimintas, and there's a lot of confusing stuff to look at. Th ocean in the sky, that floating caravan...your character probably can't get to that ocean, so they may want to examine the caravan. If they touch it, they'll immediately regret that decision -- the caravan has its own defense mechanism, and you can pick one or the other:

        - A1: Once your character touches the caravan, they can't remove their appendage from it. Kick it? Their foot is stuck. Touch it? Their hand is stuck. Lick it? Their tongue is stuck. They'll remain like this for 15 minutes without magical intervention.
        - A2: Your character's hand doesn't stay for long, but the caravan holds onto that hand for five seconds while giving your character a pretty excruciating burn. Medic!

B ▢ Maybe they're smart and they don't touch the caravan. Let's go through all of this cool stuff on the ground! It might be sort of obvious that it belongs to someone -- a lot of someone's -- but your character is thirsty, confused...maybe there's some water or answers in this pile. And maybe there's also someone who catches your character going through their shit.

Other new potential coven members will find themselves in a completely different part of town. These lucky individuals will have suddenly appeared in the marketplace area of Aimintas, surrounded by walking lizard beings that suddenly turn and take an immediate interest in this stranger.

C ▢ The Palai are very interested in the new coven members, and a new humanoid person -- or anyone that doesn't look like them -- will immediately catch their attention. They'll immediately find your character worth of their undivided attention, talking to them about coven-related things...pretty confusing right? If you need help with the short lizard folk, maybe someone will eventually arrive to help you out.

On the other hand, you might learn something interesting talking to them. A friend might join in either way!

D ▢ Once you break free of the Palai, you'll find that this marketplace is pretty interesting. It's a mixture of primitive and semi-modern technology...or is it totally unfamiliar to you? Never seen a cellphone before? Unfamiliar with the concept of women wearing pants? There's certainly something to see that'll interest your character here.

E ▢ Finally, you might be hungry and thirsty after suddenly appearing. The Palai are masters of making food, including a new concoction of theirs that they're trying out in honor of all the new people. It's a sort of bottled fruit juice that has been energized by the Eltos. It's essentially the first Aimintas Red Bull, except on acid. The drink immediately makes anyone who drinks it extremely giddy, hyper and they may potentially hallucinate. It doesn't seem to bother the Palai's biology, but everyone else...oops!

The setting found in Aimintas is pretty expansive, so you have a lot of room to wander around. Here are a few things that might catch your eye if you're really committed to wandering around.

F ▢ A house near the marketplace is incredibly special to the Palai people. Characters who wander near here will find a group of Palai who are even more excited about their new visitors: baby Palai. Some are still in eggs and kept inside, but the juvenile Palai are about two feet tall, rowdy and want to play with these new, bipedal creatures. Some of them still crawl around on all fours and are more lizard-like than others. Hope you're good with kids!

G ▢ The Palai have constructed a large library in the middle of town. If you wander in here, you'll find a myriad of books in a strange language. The Palai are a rather visual people, though, so many include pictures and illustrations. They also have a collection of computers here that connect to the Aimintas internet, as well as visual media stations that can play videos -- though they're really just powered tablets that play video files. Time to get a little taste of the Palai culture.

H ▢ Wildcard prompt. Go nuts and utilize your own creativity within the setting. This can mean striking out on your own or utilizing a certain location in a different way. The world is your oyster!

She gave her sandals a closer look, then Sanaki a closer look.

    "That wasn't very nice."

Sanaki switched from a grin to a poker face on a dime. She wasn't about to go on the defensive over a silly prank; better to establish an authoritative tone as if she knew anything about this brand of magic.

"Now, now. Consider this moment an instructive one. You want to master that ability, don't you? In that case, I imagine you'll have to learn to resist such trivial distractions sooner rather than later."

[ Skylark quickly bows and bids the Palai farewell before following after Jumin. He realises, somewhat belatedly, that this actually probably would seem kind of suspicious. But considering Jumin's, you know, human and all, he figures he's part of the coven too. ]

Not very long. I'm...still trying to understand this 'coven' thing.
yancat: <user name=recondites> (give me them gold coins)

    wait... i meant animal shelter

    Yes, we were.

[ Jumin says as he swipes through Hana's own gallery. ]

I didn't know the youth were this narcissistic.

    [ He's. Talking about the figurines. ]

It's not so much troubling as it is unusual, but something tells me unusual things aren't a stranger to you.

[ he puts a finger to his lips and tilts his head, mulling over his words. where does he even start with this person? ]

So you're an immortal king of darkness. Got it. And that doesn't strike you as... er... peculiar?
yancat: by me (he doesn't mind I have a Las Vegas past)

[ Jumin is not suspicious at all, excuse you. Of course, the fact that he's in an entirely different world also hasn't settled in yet. He'll realize it soon. For now, he walks with dignity and purpose. ]

Ah. Well, that makes two of us.

[ It's disappointing, but he carries on. ]

However, we mustn't lose heart. What we don't know, we learn. Humanity didn't survive for this long by idling about. Do you know any magic?

    I could tell.

[The blade slips back into her gauntlet. Velvet steps back into a more casual posture and puts a hand on her hip.]

So what are you? Normal people bleed a lot more than that.

[ How Jumin thought this young girl could help him is beyond anyone's imagining. Perhaps her outfit? Gallant and striking in her white and red. Asuna stands out, that's for certain. Much to her chagrin.

She looks shocked to be approached so abruptly by this, admittedly handsome, man. That's not what makes her take a half step back, though. It's not her fault she's more on edge than usual. It's not his fault, either. Unless he's the reason she's been dragged to the town of Aimintas. ]

    Huh?

[ Why is everyone saying she's a Coven member?! Is it a new popular guild she hasn't heard of? After getting stuck to a caravan and burned; being scolded for going through someone's things on the ground (In SAO, players kept their loot in their inventory! She doesn't want to acknowledge that she had been in SAO for so long that belongings on the ground was weird to her now.); attempting to pull her sword out on the Palai because she thought they were an enemy she had to fight; finding out she doesn't have her sword...

It's no wonder she's not the best of moods.

The only thing that seems to have lifted her spirits a little is the small cell phone in her hands. It's been so long since she has seen you, Cell-sama.

This time, it's time to set the record straight. ]

No, I am not. I'm a member, the Vice Commander of the The Knights of the Blood Oath. [ You know... one of the front line, floor-clearing guilds? Gosh. ]

[Lenka, for his part, is starting to resign himself to the staring too -- certainly, he'd turned some heads at the Far East Branch just for being a New-Type, and then some more that were entirely Lindow's fault (it's oddly soothing, to start blaming his former captain for things as if he were around again) -- but lizard eyes are a little different.

The Palai seem pretty much harmless, but it still makes the hair on the back of his neck stand on end to have something nonhuman tracking him whether out of curiosity or not.

Possibly it's a good thing he hasn't scared up a real weapon yet. So to speak.]

Is there any world with just one city? [is his confused reaction to Julius' question; but Lenka indicates above their heads, at the floating shadow of the island] I don't know, but I think there's something up there. The Palai seem interested in the island.

[He hasn't yet figured out for what reason; but either way it makes no sense to have just one city, does it?]
probablynoteren: (logic comes after e7 tbh)

    [personal profile] probablynoteren 2017-08-02 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Luckily, now that he isn't getting nibbled on and without Hana and the Palai's distracting calls in his ear (and that phone in his face), Lenka can concentrate on getting more solid footing so that each tug the giant koi gives isn't in danger of dragging him straight down into the pond. Once he's got his balance back -- physically and mentally -- a quick twist of his hands lifts the fish out of the water entirely for just a moment before he carefully tosses it back in.

It's food, after all (apparently). For its trouble, he leaves it the bread, which is no longer something fit for consumption by either humans or amphibians anyway. Lenka finally settles back on the bank of the pond and looks between Hana and the refrigerator.

Most of the Palai have moved on to bigger and better (and considerably less wetter) things, so fridging and fishing seems to have done the trick.]

There might be snacks. Or something else. [a shrug] It's hard to control.

[Inside the fridge, though, Hana will find: a number of spices, a large bag of lemons, some cheeses, a bottle of mystery liquid, and a whole goose. Honk.]

Velvet Crowe | Tales of Berseria

    [personal profile] allconsumed 2017-08-02 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
    [ E ]

[Velvet is hard to miss in the marketplace area. There's her outfit for starters, but she's also had some of the special fruit juice and hasn't necessarily noticed the effects yet. The food the Palai offered her earlier was great, so why shouldn't she try something to drink?

Her passion for cooking bubbles up when she sees a stand selling cutlery – specifically knives. The normally reticent Velvet will happily share her thoughts on them with anybody that's nearby and within earshot. At the same time, she proceeds to grab one of the bigger ones from the display in order to get a closer look, startling the merchant.]

Almost all of these are for cutting vegetables, but look how many different kinds there are. [She holds the knife up at eye level and rotates it slowly.] That's a good edge. Your can tell, right?

[She grabs another.] Same here. These handles are comfortable and they each have individual designs, so you can tell that a lot of care was put into the craftsmanship. I don't think I have enough to trade for either of these right now, but I really really think it would be a good investment. Every cook worth a damn has a reliable knife for chopping.

[And so on. Feel free to interrupt her at any time. Some mild hallucinations could also kick in sooner rather than later, heads up.]

    [ F ]

[Velvet Crowe: rampaging killer daemon, the feared Lord of Calamity – and caretaker of baby lizard-people. She's better with kids than she is with… almost any other kind of person, at least, and she definitely isn't about to hurt the little ones or let any of them be hurt.

Upon closer inspection, she's pretty damn good at keeping them both corralled and entertained while they crawl all over her. Yep, even the adventurous ones that attempt to climb up her very long hair; she's able to scoop up any would be troublemakers with steady but gentle hands.

She'll show less kindness to any onlookers that aren't Palai; basically all she has for them is a cold glare, and her expression can change in a heartbeat.]

...Yes, a knife for chopping. As opposed to a knife for juggling?

[She also really doesn't care about cooking. That's something somebody does for you, while a small army of other somebodies make sure they don't poison you.]

[ Marco had been looking for Star, but he'd given up for the time being to start looking through the items that had been strewn about. Even in his worry it didn't take him long to notice the poor soul that had both his extremities stuck to the caravan wall.

It was with a sigh that he stood up, dusting off his knees and approaching with an air that said 'yeah, I know magic stuff'; if it were someone else it might be a comforting aura, but this was Marco Diaz. Used to magic or not, it wasn't exactly his forte. He approached, clearing his throat a little and quirking his brow. ]

Fell for the old sticky wall trick, did you? Yeah, I've seen it happen to a few others...

[ A pause for a laugh, he was rather proud of himself. ]

...but not Marco Diaz, too smart to fall for that one!

[ Did it strike him as strange that Tatsumi hadn't called for help? Not particularly. Did it strike him as strange that in his effort to look cool he'd leaned his shoulder up against that very same wall? Not even a little bit.

He'd figure it out in a moment, surely he would. ]

[ Oh wait, yeah, he figured it out. There's a chortle of nervous laughter, his free hand coming up to the back of his head. ]

W-wait, I think...I said I've seen a few people go through this, right?

[ He's sweating now. Hasn't he learned by now that being cool never gets him anywhere?? ]

    We need magic.

    [ A beat. ]

...you don't, happen to know any magic, do you?

[ The odds were slim, weren't they? He'd seen so many people and things with magic, but without Star here to help...was there a rational way to take care of this? ]

    [personal profile] silenceofthelance 2017-08-03 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
    [Magic...

He thinks about it, and ends up summoning a halberd with his free hand. It's not a magical halberd, but it's still pretty much the same, right?]

[ It's Marco's turn to let his eyes go wide, instinctively pulling back as far as the wall would let him; a slight yelp accompanied the movement. ]

I'll take that as a yes, but I'm not sure that's the kind we need!

[ Did he sound nervous? Yeah, it's because he was, looking over his shoulder in hopes that Star would finally turn up. If he'd thought to time it at all, he would have realised that this would wear off eventually but it hadn't applied to him. ]

I was thinking more along of the lines of water or you know, toothpaste?

    [Oh.

    Well.

    That's a good point.

He looks at his halberd though, then the caravan, a contemplative look on his face. It's probably easy to guess, judging by the way he's holding it, and the way he's eyeing the caravan, that he's actually considering trying to hack it instead.]

[She's human. That alone tells Jumin she's not from Aimintas. Outsiders might know what exactly is at work here, or so he thought, but Asuna seems to be just as clueless as he is, if not a bit delusional. She looks too young to be a vice commander of anything, and that's by Jumin's standards. Why won't anyone on this world answer him seriously?

Given her disposition and their predicament, he realizes there's no point in questioning her claim.]
