You blink and that's all it takes. At first, the picture doesn't come in clear, like you're waiting for a screen to fully load -- more aptly, it's like you're waiting for a camera to focus so you can find image clarity. Before you happened to rapidly close your eyes and open them, your life was normal...well, normal for you, anyway. Fighting an alien, making a quesadilla, dying. And then that blurry picture suddenly takes over. There's a lot to take in here -- you feel weird, your surroundings are weird. Everything is just weird. For starters, there's that new piece of jewelry inserted in the space above your chest. That certainly wasn't there before you opened your eyes.
B ▢ Other new arrivals aren't so lucky as to arrive in the warm embrace of an apartment's bed. It's currently raining in Shehui, and because of the current post-winter temperature, the rain is certainly cold. You're now in the middle of a busy street, out in the open -- no umbrella to your name. You have the opportunity to grab some shelter underneath an awning or run into a building. Or will someone take pity on you? Or are you not bothered by a sudden, frigid downpour? C ▢ Shehui is looking to celebrate an upcoming holiday -- Yeunai. Something of a bonding holiday that celebrates a variety of relationships, Shehui residents are really into this consumer, capitalist bonanza. On certain Shehui streets are mats that read the ID data of those that stand on them. Whether or not you'd like to take part in this little shindig, a nearby machine will random spit out some data about you and another person on the same long mat. (Need some guidance? Here's a love calculator!) That's a good ice-breaker, right? D ▢ Despite Shehui's distrust of magic, faux magic isn't a big deal. In fact, there's currently a showcase of street performers making money with their craft. Located around Shehui's famed tower, there's a lot of room for some real magic here. Want to take yours for a spin? It's easy enough to simply say you can't reveal your secrets when you're asked about a certain talent. E ▢ With how prominent cell phones are in Shehui, a lot of new and old arrivals have them by now -- you, newbie, might have already picked one up! Despite not having anyone on your contact list yet, you do seem to be getting quite a few messages...though they aren't going to your cell phone. Instead, they're being telepathically broadcast into your head, or even before your eyes! On the opposite end of the spectrum, it's very likely that you're transmitting your own accidental telepathic broadcast...but what are you saying, exactly? F ▢ Another fun activity -- Chips! is always open! Today they're hosting their regular games, but there's also a SongWars competition, including a huge stage and everything. While you may not know the words to these strange, alien pop songs, the crowd may turn in your favour if you put on a good show regardless. What do you win for besting your champion? A nice plastic trophy and a big Chocorrone. G ▢ For some people, the whole "kidnapped to another world with new magic and cell phones and shit" is actually...kind of a downer. For those of you who want to enjoy the evening and maybe meditate for a while, there are plenty of parks with benches that allow you to sit and think. You may not want company, but it may find you regardless... H ▢ Wildcard! How will your character react to this strange world? |
honebami toushirou | touken ranbu
[ Heavy Shehui rain in the forecast? Not a problem, apparently. The rain doesn't seem to bother Honebami at all, walking along the streets and trying to figure out his surroundings. He can't do that by hanging under shelter after all, so here he is, taking a brisk walk without being fazed. ]
Haa... Achoo! It doesn't stop...
[ Okay, maybe the cold part of the rain is getting to him. He has to stop to moves hi hair off his face too, making it hard to see what's even in from of him. That's a good opportunity as any... Someone please get him somewhere dry. ]
E.
[ Someone here doesn't realize the telepathic message thing, as expected for a newbie. Finally he gives in and has to say something about it... it's very distracting and he has things to do!
...On this shiny new phone. ]
I've been trying to clear out the messages on this for the past few minutes.
They just keep coming though.
I just want to take pictures of these new cats before they leave again.
[ The pale-colored one with a peach-shaped mark on its rear is being very evasive. ]
G.
[ Well if there are benches to mope on, Honebami will take one. That's not to say the things Shehui's offering aren't fun, they are. People are pretty nice and friendly, even to strangers.
But yes, the "kidnapped and finding himself stuck in a strange world without finding anyone he recognizes" part of this dawns on him. It's one of those things that can finally catch up to you when you've had a moment to rest. So here he is on one, with his knees drawn up to his chest. ]
...
[ He does look up from time to time, watching the passerby. By now he knows that there are new people like him and not from here. He's holding onto some hope. There are lot of swords his master managed to gather, the odds aren't aren't the worst. Luck is up in the air though... Honestly, company would be a little nice, even if he's being gloomy. ]
H.
[ Wildcard option! I'm cool with all of these prompts, or whatever shenanigan you might have in mind! ]
b
H-Hey! You'll catch a cold just standing out here!
[ jude strides forward until he's by his side, giving him a once-over. ]
Come on. Let's hurry up and get somewhere dry. Follow me.
no subject
Hm? That bad...
[ The severity, he means. He knows weather like this isn't ideal for wandering, but he was a bit too preoccupied to think about getting sick.
He looks at Jude timidly. He isn't good with strangers, but he's listening and that's a sound idea. ]
Alright, I will. Can I know your name?
no subject
— Oh, sorry, I should have introduced myself right off the bat. I'm Jude Mathis. And what about you?
g
He wasn't: there was other people around. But the thought was there. After all, he enjoyed adventure, excitement, and so on, but he had his duty, he wasn't doing his duty, and there was a stack of paperwork that he needed to sign off on that was waiting for him, and it wasn't like Vane was going to take care of it, and-
Sigh. And he looked up and-]
...
[You know, he's just going to head one bench over, plop down, and ask.]
You too?
[Somehow it seems less depressing when there's company.]
no subject
Mmm.
[ Honebami nods. It eels a little rude to be curled up like he is now... but it's also Safe Mode. He can loosen up a bit and bring his knees down a few inches, so the guy can hear him. ]
This place isn't boring, but I still feel like something's missing. I'd... rather do boring things back home with my family, honestly.
[ Admittedly if he was around people he did recognize, hugging them or just being within a comfortable distance would fix this. Alas. ]
no subject
Only a little. But it's there.]
I feel similarly. [What would Siegfried do?] Even if this is an experience, I'd feel more comfortable knowing things were being taken care of back home, or that some of my friends were here. Or that we can do...something. I'd feel much better if there was a dragon to slay or citizens to help.
no subject
Balancing work and pleasure would be good. Knowing my family isn't worrying without me, too.
[ Namazuo must be having a panic attack over a missing honeybun, and then the rest would follow. He hopes his absence is more nicely sorted out, if possible. ]
...Are you serious about slaying dragons, or is it an expression?
[ Shehui culture is messing with the poor sheltered wakizashi. ]
no subject
There were a few. Fafnir was the most significant one. Don't get me wrong... [...secondary uncomfortable realization: they didn't trade names.
It's fine.]
...I'm glad this place seems to be peaceful. But at the same time it's a problem that I know how to deal with.
no subject
Maybe just a little. But hey, it's working. He's intrigued by the guy because he doesn't sound like the dragon-fighting type... Unless it was like a storybook kind of deal. ]
I'm used to fighting battles as well, so I understand that. If you've fought actual dragons... could I know your name?
[ Just curiosity at work. He can add in his fancy title too, if he wants. ]
Peace is good, but it's odd for us. I feel like... that's expected.
[ Piece of his memories say that feudal lords were bored out of their minds as the the Sengoku Era waned to more peaceful times. Or was that something he was told, rather than experienced? But all the fun and games isn't cutting it when it's not... rewarding. Just there, seemingly all the time. ]
no subject
[It feels a bit like he's saying the less obvious and finishing with some obvious fact like, "And I breathe air." But given the circumstances it bears repeating.] And we've gone from crisis to crisis enough that...I confess, I feel like I'm missing something.
[There's gotta be some hideous plot twist, basically.]
no subject
...My name is Honebami. Honebami Toushirou. No title.
[ It sounds Western and Honebami is from an island country, so that's at least a simple sort of guess-observation. ]
So there was conflict where you're from. Same here... Do you think this place is actually that nice to not have it?
[ Doubts abound. This place is honestly unsettling for the absence either way. But admitting you admits is... Also bad. Curse engaging mobage premises. ]
no subject
Of course! If this is a true peace, then it is a testament to the effort of the people in building it. Such a place is...rare. Very rare. I can't think of the number of times I've encountered a nation that seemed at peace only to discover that it was a lie.
[...now he's wondering if there's something going on under the surface here, dammit, it was just so nice enjoying it for what it was, back in the day he could take it for granted, now one word and...dammit Isabella, dammit.]
CATS
ehhhh, are there cats around you? I want to see~ ☆
[ note: has not realised that it's a game yet. ]
Nya nya
Oh, they're on my phone, not outside. How do you do this...
[ Through some sort of miracle, or telepathy aided smartphone technology by focusing on that one message to send it to whoever sent it, he gets a picture delivered! Ta-dah. ]
you did this on purpose
that's a very nice picture of odd-san ♡ if it helps, they won't leave unless you run out of food and close the game, so take all the pictures you want~
i have no idea what you're talking about, it's just a cat
That's good to know. I was afraid of losing Odd-san, I didn't know cats could have eyes like that. A comrade of mine does though, so I guess it's possible.
sure
I don't know if cats actually have eyes like that, I haven't seen one like that yet. But what a coincidence ☆ A dear friend of mine also has eyes like that, right down to the colours. I've told him he looks exactly like Odd-san before, fufu.
i can't hear your doubt over the sound of n(h)yaaas
Ah, that's wonderful.
But, calling someone odd might be an insult, right?
that icon tho
so, how many cats have you taken pictures of already? there are a few who are pretty tricky to catch~
twitter blesses me
I have 8. I'm waiting for the red one with white paws to come. When I took a break, he stopped by, but I missed him for a photo.
There's also Cream-san. I heard some thoughts complaining about her.
no subject
[ is she preening over his compliment about being nice? PROBABLY, YEAH. ]
ah, they'll be back soon! I think that one likes cushions, but I'd have to check my own album... I've got most of the regular cats but some of the rare cats are elusive T_T
... Cream-san is the worst, she took ages for me to see her. Can you believe that she gave me her memento even before I saw her face?!
no subject
I have many brothers, but he's the one I'm closest to. Are you a big sister?
[ Probably, there's good effort put into the onee-san impression, as seen here. ]
I'll try my best to bring her home. I wonder if she's shyer than the ones in costumes. Or just finicky. It's nice she left a gift though, I heard cats do that for people they like in real life.
no subject
she's just finicky. at least the ones in costume show up if you put the right toys out! Cream-san should show up eventually with a bit of patience!
my nyanko's left me toys on my bed before - it's nice, but it's not somewhere you'd expect them to be!

Another of my little brothers has five little ones. They do that too, and he has to put things back after, even if that's sweet of them. If they're things taken from others, he apologizes a lot too.
Pets are a lot of responsibility. But he loves them very much.
[ LIKE A SMART PERSON(?), he's not saying they're tiger cubs. ]
