You blink and that's all it takes. At first, the picture doesn't come in clear, like you're waiting for a screen to fully load -- more aptly, it's like you're waiting for a camera to focus so you can find image clarity. Before you happened to rapidly close your eyes and open them, your life was normal...well, normal for you, anyway. Fighting an alien, making a quesadilla, dying. And then that blurry picture suddenly takes over. There's a lot to take in here -- you feel weird, your surroundings are weird. Everything is just weird. For starters, there's that new piece of jewelry inserted in the space above your chest. That certainly wasn't there before you opened your eyes.
B ▢ Other new arrivals aren't so lucky as to arrive in the warm embrace of an apartment's bed. It's currently raining in Shehui, and because of the current post-winter temperature, the rain is certainly cold. You're now in the middle of a busy street, out in the open -- no umbrella to your name. You have the opportunity to grab some shelter underneath an awning or run into a building. Or will someone take pity on you? Or are you not bothered by a sudden, frigid downpour? C ▢ Shehui is looking to celebrate an upcoming holiday -- Yeunai. Something of a bonding holiday that celebrates a variety of relationships, Shehui residents are really into this consumer, capitalist bonanza. On certain Shehui streets are mats that read the ID data of those that stand on them. Whether or not you'd like to take part in this little shindig, a nearby machine will random spit out some data about you and another person on the same long mat. (Need some guidance? Here's a love calculator!) That's a good ice-breaker, right? D ▢ Despite Shehui's distrust of magic, faux magic isn't a big deal. In fact, there's currently a showcase of street performers making money with their craft. Located around Shehui's famed tower, there's a lot of room for some real magic here. Want to take yours for a spin? It's easy enough to simply say you can't reveal your secrets when you're asked about a certain talent. E ▢ With how prominent cell phones are in Shehui, a lot of new and old arrivals have them by now -- you, newbie, might have already picked one up! Despite not having anyone on your contact list yet, you do seem to be getting quite a few messages...though they aren't going to your cell phone. Instead, they're being telepathically broadcast into your head, or even before your eyes! On the opposite end of the spectrum, it's very likely that you're transmitting your own accidental telepathic broadcast...but what are you saying, exactly? F ▢ Another fun activity -- Chips! is always open! Today they're hosting their regular games, but there's also a SongWars competition, including a huge stage and everything. While you may not know the words to these strange, alien pop songs, the crowd may turn in your favour if you put on a good show regardless. What do you win for besting your champion? A nice plastic trophy and a big Chocorrone. G ▢ For some people, the whole "kidnapped to another world with new magic and cell phones and shit" is actually...kind of a downer. For those of you who want to enjoy the evening and maybe meditate for a while, there are plenty of parks with benches that allow you to sit and think. You may not want company, but it may find you regardless... H ▢ Wildcard! How will your character react to this strange world? |
i hope you are just as entertained by this as me
He recognized the tone of Mike's voice (not to mention, hated it too). ]
You're right. They probably wouldn't like that...
[ Mike didn't have to know there was nobody else home. A cheeky grin spread across the boy's face. ]
But you don't have to leave now, do you? I was getting so lonely, Mister. Ah, you're not a monster here to eat me though, are you?
screams
Nope, no eating here! I'm one of the good monsters--er, turtles! I'd love to stick around, but you know--can't fight the bad guys if I don't get moving!
[Yep, he's gonna die.]
FDSJLK I'M SORRY
Oh, you're a turtle? That's good to know, Mister Turtle. I thought you were a frog at first, but I don't think I've ever seen a frog with a shell before.
[ It's nice to have the upper hand sometimes. ]
Don't worry, Mister Turtle! I don't think there are any bad guys around. Fighting isn't good anyways, and if you went off to fight you'd be a bad guy too, wouldn't you?
no, I'm so glad
Thaaaat's not really how it works?
[Okay, okay. He's gotta focus here--at least long enough to find out where his brothers are (so he can hide behind Leonardo and let him deal with this.]
Besides, I've got lots of other um, important turtle stuff to do. [What is he even saying?] Which would be a lot easier if I knew where the others are. You seen anyone else like me around?
never in my wildest dreams did i think i'd get to terrorize a ninja turtle
[ Czeslaw gives Mike another frown. It's the first genuine expression he's given the ninja turtle. ]
Mister Turtle, what kind of "important turtle stuff" are you talking about? I wouldn't know because I'm not a turtle. Please, won't you tell me about it?
[ At this point, Czeslaw's questions had evolved from deception to honest curiosity. It was difficult not to be intrigued by the flustered turtle. ]
Maybe if you tell me more, I'll tell you if I've seen other turtles like you too!
rp is magic
I don't know. I guess I could, but... [He offers a conspiratorial smile.] It'd be a lot cooler if I showed you, right? But we've gotta find my brothers first if you wanna get the full turtle experience.
pls... tell him all about mike's family
All right, Mister Turtle. You win.
[ Czeslaw shrugged, then folded his arms over his chest while tilting his head slightly to the side. ]
I... haven't seen any other big turtles like you, no. You have brothers though, you said? ... What are they like?
that's what the theme song is for
[No situation, apparently, is serious enough for him to bother with using his full name.
Normally, talking about his family is pretty off limits, but since he's already let it slip that they exist, saying something vague is probably okay. If Mike's really flying solo on this one, he's going to have to stall until he can figure out how to escape.]
I've got three brothers, but they're definitely not as fun as me. What's your family like?
[Creepy and dangerous? He's betting on creepy and dangerous.]
i haven't heard it in ages... catch me running to look it up again
[ It would be rude to hide his name from the strange turtle man, wouldn't it? ]
I guess it's only fair if I give you my name too, isn't it? I'm -- [ Think of a name -- any name. ] Matthew. It's nice to meet you!
[ Three brothers? Czeslaw couldn't even imagine what it was like having one sibling. The wheels in his brain began to turn as he tried to drum up an image of a loving family. ]
Oh... It's not very interesting. It's just Mother, Father, and me. It must be lively having brothers though.
[ It's a good thing he's used to lying through his teeth. ]
no subject
Sure, it's just great if you like never having any privacy or peace and quiet.
[It's a fond sort of complaining, at least.]
But I bet you get bored being by yourself all the time, huh Matthew? How long have you guys lived-- [A quick glance back to the window. That doesn't look like New York out there.] Uh. Wherever this is?
[Please say it's still Earth.]
no subject
It gets boring sometimes, but I don't really mind.
[ He follows Mike's gaze out the window, contemplating the turtle's tone. Of course living with others involved a lack of privacy, but Czeslaw wondered if that was preferable over the voices roiling in his head. ]
Shehui, I think. That's what I heard people calling this place. Maybe it's been a month by now.
[ The web of lies grows wider. He has to take control back in the conversation. ]
If you're not from Shehui, where did you come from, Mikey?
no subject
[That doesn't ring any bells, but it's not entirely alien sounding either. And this kid's only been here for a month? Mike gets the first inkling that maybe, just maybe, immediately jumping to the most ridiculous conclusion about his situation might not have been the smartest move. Before he can press on the matter, Czeslaw's question distracts him.]
New York. Uh, America? Nice little green and blue planet third in line from the sun? Some of that's sounding familiar, right?
no subject
That's where I came from too. How come I've never heard about you before, Mikey?
[ That did not mean New York was without its secrets.
In fact, he was well aware there were secrets lurking in the city's corners. ]
