You blink and that's all it takes. At first, the picture doesn't come in clear, like you're waiting for a screen to fully load -- more aptly, it's like you're waiting for a camera to focus so you can find image clarity. Before you happened to rapidly close your eyes and open them, your life was normal...well, normal for you, anyway. Fighting an alien, making a quesadilla, dying. And then that blurry picture suddenly takes over. There's a lot to take in here -- you feel weird, your surroundings are weird. Everything is just weird. For starters, there's that new piece of jewelry inserted in the space above your chest. That certainly wasn't there before you opened your eyes.
B ▢ Other new arrivals aren't so lucky as to arrive in the warm embrace of an apartment's bed. It's currently raining in Shehui, and because of the current post-winter temperature, the rain is certainly cold. You're now in the middle of a busy street, out in the open -- no umbrella to your name. You have the opportunity to grab some shelter underneath an awning or run into a building. Or will someone take pity on you? Or are you not bothered by a sudden, frigid downpour? C ▢ Shehui is looking to celebrate an upcoming holiday -- Yeunai. Something of a bonding holiday that celebrates a variety of relationships, Shehui residents are really into this consumer, capitalist bonanza. On certain Shehui streets are mats that read the ID data of those that stand on them. Whether or not you'd like to take part in this little shindig, a nearby machine will random spit out some data about you and another person on the same long mat. (Need some guidance? Here's a love calculator!) That's a good ice-breaker, right? D ▢ Despite Shehui's distrust of magic, faux magic isn't a big deal. In fact, there's currently a showcase of street performers making money with their craft. Located around Shehui's famed tower, there's a lot of room for some real magic here. Want to take yours for a spin? It's easy enough to simply say you can't reveal your secrets when you're asked about a certain talent. E ▢ With how prominent cell phones are in Shehui, a lot of new and old arrivals have them by now -- you, newbie, might have already picked one up! Despite not having anyone on your contact list yet, you do seem to be getting quite a few messages...though they aren't going to your cell phone. Instead, they're being telepathically broadcast into your head, or even before your eyes! On the opposite end of the spectrum, it's very likely that you're transmitting your own accidental telepathic broadcast...but what are you saying, exactly? F ▢ Another fun activity -- Chips! is always open! Today they're hosting their regular games, but there's also a SongWars competition, including a huge stage and everything. While you may not know the words to these strange, alien pop songs, the crowd may turn in your favour if you put on a good show regardless. What do you win for besting your champion? A nice plastic trophy and a big Chocorrone. G ▢ For some people, the whole "kidnapped to another world with new magic and cell phones and shit" is actually...kind of a downer. For those of you who want to enjoy the evening and maybe meditate for a while, there are plenty of parks with benches that allow you to sit and think. You may not want company, but it may find you regardless... H ▢ Wildcard! How will your character react to this strange world? |
czeslaw meyer | baccano!
[ He remembered dying. He remembered lying in a puddle of his own blood.
Czeslaw lost count of exactly how many times he'd landed in this exact situation. Waking up in a bed was uncommon, but certainly not unusual.
Having the body of a ten-year-old was remarkably handy. He was an expert at using his age to his advantage.
After the eighty-fourth time he'd died, Czeslaw began to wonder if people would walk past his bleeding body if he were a little bit older. ]
Um... hello...? Excuse me...
[ Be bleary-eyed and speak with a hushed tone. That was the key to success. ]
B.
[ How odd. He could have sworn that was the door to the train's supply closet. Czeslaw scowled and crossed his arms over his chest. He should have looked twice before hurling himself into the first hiding spot he could find.
Still, one did not typically expect to find themselves stepping through a door and onto an unfamiliar street. ]
Hmph... Just my luck. Of course it would be raining.
[ Getting soaked like a drowned cat was not how Czeslaw expected to spend his Thursday evening.
He crouched beneath a lonely building's awning. Perhaps the rain would let up soon.
Czeslaw sneezes. ]
E.
[ Who knew asking directions could be so effective at distracting the unsuspecting? Czeslaw turned the "cell phone" over in his hands. It was tiny for a phone.
How did people keep track of them?
(evidently, they didn't.) ]
HAH
too easy
like taking candy from a baby!
wonder how much this goes for
bet i could swipe another
H. Wildcard! Surprise me!
B
Lead me to your home. You've been here for hours — it's tiring to watch.
Re: B
Hours? Doesn't that mean you've been out here for hours too then, sir?
[ There were other buildings in the vicinity, but they all seemed abandoned.
Czeslaw does not answer Percival's command. ]
he's just used to looking after angry immortal children
He doubts he'd be a good father, but maybe being a good father can start with learning how to be a good person, at least to children.
So, he turns around and looks at the very small young man. He doesn't force smile, but does try to crouch a little so his 6'0 frame is a little closer to eye level. ]
You okay? Did you just get here?
michel is babysitter of the year
The boy worries his lower lip between his teeth. ]
I'm okay, I think. But I don't know where I am... Do you think you could tell me, mister?
[ He couldn't believe they fell for it every single time. Stupid adults! ]
babysitter of the year, month and century
[ Thats comforting to some people, right? ]
You're in a place called Sheihui. I don't know much about it, but the people here are nice. They give you a bit of money to get by at the start and it's a lot like Macau and Thailand on Earth, if thats where you're from.
if you think about it he was giselle's babysitter too
Oh! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I was afraid that everyone would know what was going on except for me...
[ Nice? Yeah, okay. ]
Macau and Thailand...
[ He raises a fist to his mouth and presses it against his lips, deep in thought. What on earth was that supposed to mean? Still, getting some free money wasn't necessarily a bad thing. ]
So we're... not on Earth?
nah giselle was his babysitter
Um. Yeah, actually. I don't really know the details but I think we're in another dimension.
i just remembered giselle yelling at michel to eat his veggies
Another dimension... [ And then quietly, as though he were speaking to himself -- ] Well, good.
[ Czeslaw scrutinizes Michel's face. ]
... you're not a vampire, are you, mister? If this is a different dimension, vampires could be real too, right?
michel and morgana in the back of the car singing "mcdonalds" as a gregorian chant
-and then there was that time after Twilight came out. ]
Haha. No. I'm just...albino and french. From your accent I'm guessing you're American?
GREGORIAN CHANT MCDONALDS......
Sorry, Sir, I just had to check. ... you never know what's out there. [ His tone is strangely serious. ]
[ Czeslaw nods at Michel's comment. ] That's right, I am! You figured that out pretty fast, Sir!
like the hart yearns for water so my soul yearns for burge oh lord
You don't think they're real, do you? I promise most of the times you encounter stories of them their was a perfectly mundane reason for someone to act that way and it was just ignorance that made people think it was witchcraft or devilry.
[ Not that he's speaking from experience or anything. ]
I have...visited a lot of places so it's just a skill I developed.
FKSDJDSFKLJ
No, but... [ The man's question makes him feel two hundred and twenty years younger. ] Do you really think the strange things that happen weren't really that strange? [ The question is genuine, and Czeslaw mulls Michel's statement about in his head. ] Maybe you're right, Sir. No... You're probably right. They're all just big misunderstandings, aren't they?
[ It was for the best if others believed all strange occurrences were truly just something mundane, something mundane that spun out of control. ]
Oh, what should I call you, Sir? Do you have a name? I'm -- [ any name will do. ] Joseph.
