OOC NOTES

▢ Hello all! Welcome to the inaugural Saturday update post for Spellbind. Every Saturday, a post with notes for the week to come will go up, giving you guys an idea about current goings on, upcoming events and prompts to make your life a little bit more exciting every week. If all goes according to plan, you'll never have a day where you can't make a post and are left to twiddle your thumbs waiting for the next event log. You are, of course, welcome to make your own fun AND prompts are optional, but they are here for inspiration and to keep you and your characters engaged with the game.

▢ The first app round netted us 48 characters for the game opening, leaving 72 spots open. We also have two casts nearing cap: Homestuck and JoJo's with five characters each. After the next round of apps, we'll take a look at activity, how many characters in game and how many casts are at cap to see if the levels will need adjusting up (though as of now, there will be no restrictions or tightening of caps).

▢ Apps were great this round! The area that needed work the most was Magic Ability, but don't worry -- this is a reflection of the application explanation, not of you! There are a few things that should be explained a little better, and they will be both here and on the explanation page:

- While your magic ability needs to be one specific power, that doesn't mean simply writing a sentence announcing the power without explaining it. It's good to expand upon what your magic can do in order for everyone (mods, players, you) to have an understanding of its capabilities.
- Limitations and caveats aren't necessary, but they are encouraged. It's natural that magic has limits,
and you're free to express your creativity in how these limits work.
- Finally, when it comes to a power that creates AND manipulates something, this is given a little wiggle room. If you want to create magic that, say, can create water but can't control it, you're welcome to! But a lot of -kinesis powers come with both creation and manipulation, and it's hard to fully separate the two, so it will be considered one magic ability on a case by case basis.

▢ The official-unofficial Spellbind Info Code was going to be linked in the acceptance copy, but didn't make the final cut. You can find it here and use it for your info page. It also lists what info absolutely MUST be on your info page, regardless of whether or not you use the code.

▢ As of this post, we also have an official Discord server and here's the invite link! This will be added to the mod contact page as well. The settings may need adjusting, but we'll all wiggle that out once the chat is going.

▢ Finally, if you have any thread of the TDM, this can be used as your Bonus AC for the month, no matter what your comment count is. You can also immediately start posting your AC as of this post.

IC EVENTS

▢ As a note, the calendar will refer to dates using OOC time. While the game flows at a speed of 1:1, our current calendar date is of course not the Spellbind date.

▢ For the game opening, life on the hub will be reasonably tame. You can expect the events of the intro log to happen regularly when it comes to the boars, space worms, and crabs continuing to over-populate the bath house.

▢ On the 11th, a small log will go up specifically for magic training. Brie will be handing out tasks based on character's magic, so if you want to sign a character up for the training log, reply to this comment and they'll be given a mission. Some magic will of course require another person (like healing, copying, etc), so consider this when writing your prompts and signing up. There is no OOC penalty for not completing this task, but Brie may force someone to run a lap if they can't -- at sword point.

▢ On the 14th, Genette will be tasked with trying desperately to clean out the crab colony from the bathhouse. No official log will go up for this, but it's something that may lead to some nasty pinches -- perhaps a good opportunity for some healing! There's also a lot of space in the bathhouse for private conversations, so characters can feel free to slack off on cleaning duty to have some much needed chatting time.

▢ On the 17th, Brie will look for explorers and adventurers to get a lay of the island a little better than she could. There will be a mini log for this mission for anyone who wants to sign up. What will they find? On the west side of the island, there's another sizable house that contains a few supplies, molded food and some knickknacks. If you want your character to explore to this area OR explore on their own and see what they find, reply to this thread to reveal your character's haul.

▢ Throughout the week, baby boar piglets will wander into camp. These piglets are skittish, but also incredibly tame compared to their parents. On one hand, they're very savory looking and probably produce meat. On the other, they have very sharp knee plates that they use to kill crab enemies. They may be worth taming (if you can avoid mom long enough).

IMPORTANT DATES

▢ The calendar listed the 17th as the date of the new world, but it's been pushed back to the 20th to allow players to acclimate their characters into the hub setting AND give ample time for cultivating ideas for the new world. More info will go up on next weeks update post!

▢ Keep track of the calendar here!
