If you destroy a building or do something ridiculous? Speak up on the player plot post! This is a post for major actions taken by characters, and this will be prevalent in Shehui, a low-frequency world that is apparently against magic. Based on these threads, new prompts may be added to weekend posts that will reflect how these actions change the setting. ▢ IMPORTANT Players can of course decide to break the rules of Shehui and buck the system -- that's to be expected, and pushing the limits of the setting is even encouraged! However, consider major character actions and how they potentially affect the gameplay of others. If a character decides to try and burn down the city on the second day...obviously this wouldn't fly for very long and the plot would be over within a day. There's intrigue here and the potential for exploration, investigation and espionage, as well as figuring out magic harvesting along the way (because that must somehow be possible or why else would they be there?) Sit back and enjoy it! ▢ Finally, the calendar will be updated sometime today or tomorrow with some more dates related to the new world. Look out for it!

Because it will probably come up: how is the city towards creative/intelligent types who just can't not stand out? Like in Yusuke's case, he does weird poses and goes on about his art to anyone who expresses some interest and he gets emotional about shit and there's less artsy types who can be the same way about their passion projects. Is any of that going to cause problems in the city?

How is school placement decided? I ask because I play someone who's fifteen but has an education equivalent to, like, a modern American ten-year-old at best.

In other shamelessly character-interest-specific questions, are there any public pools or similar areas in the city?

Would Moon's Pokemon's more exotic moves be assumed to be magic by the officials or would their obviously nonhuman status and Moon's insistence if asked cause them to assume it's a biological, non-magical thing?

Also, how are pets taken in Shehui in general? I think that's what Moon's Pokemon would likely be assumed to be.

Is it possible for the Shehui officials to detect magic use from a coven member if it's a power that's constantly activated but isn't particularly visible, ie. Vern's magic empathy or Lalli's never-sleep?

Does security work exist that's tailored to Important Personages in Shehui -- like, more bodyguard type opportunities? (It'd be good to know who's considered an important person in the city too. Elected officials, business owners etc.?)

If so, would that work be available to nonhumans or would nonhuman prejudice be an impediment to that?

When people arrive, are they allowed to have things like THEIR SWORD THAT THEY LOVE or are those permanently taken from them?

No, they’re definitely allowed. Things like sparring and sword collecting aren’t discouraged, which also means that it’s possible to find a hodgepodge of weaponry around Shehui outside of massive, universe-shattering guns and the like. Any base level weaponry would absolutely be allowed.

Not important persons, unless you’re a permanent resident. These wouldn’t be handed out willy nilly. Shehui also doesn’t necessarily have a publicly structured government. Economy runners would be considered the most important people in society, a.k.a. Who contributes the most to coin gaining and spending.

Lower level security jobs won’t be prejudiced as they’re essentially automatic signups.

Yes, which won’t automatically put them on high-alert. Many magic beings come through, and their magic can be sensed, but it’s not really known to be unconcealed until they use it. The abilities listed above aren’t exactly...flashy. Like if for some reason someone monitored Lalli all the time to know he’s an insomniac 24/7, then they might be concerned. However, magic that is no visible won’t be automatically noticed or a concern to Shehui.

The Pokémon, since they’d be seen more as pets, would be warned about if they publicly display powers or abilities that may cause harm. Since it’s something biological in most cases, it would be more an issue of Moon keeping track of her Pokémon and making sure they don’t do any damage.

Pets in Shehui are essentially how you’d think of pets OOCly. Basically, take care that they aren’t a public nuisance and any damage they cause will be monitored and potentially result in credit deduction if damage is caused.

School can be a test-in or choice based issue. So if a character would like to continue with their academics while “vacationing,” they’re allowed to at whatever level they choose. Others would be better off in a placement situation since they’re children of parents who are planning long-term residencies. Regardless, educational needs can be met no matter what age or knowledge level, whether that means going back a few grades or tutoring.

Also, aside from the pool in the apartment building, it can be assumed there’s a public pool somewhere!

Nope. As long as it’s not a major disturbance, he’s allowed to be as eccentric as he’d like! The basic rule is “as long as it’s not hurting someone or a crime, it’s allowed.”

Thank you!! Another question: during the three hour lockdown, can they escape to the roof of the building? ...and possibly to other roofs of other buildings from there, although not definitely, just raising that question in general.

Re: jobs - don't think I saw this, apologies if it's stated. Can characters take more than one job, given they're two hours shifts? Or can they take as many shifts as they like in one day?

If they after three weeks move into a more professional job, would it then be no longer possible, as those are described as constant?

What would a military job (as such a career is listed here) look like in Shuhei?

Weapons: the TDM had a prompt where characters could arm themselves with any assortment, thanks to Brie. Is that applicable, i.e., could someone bring a gun from that pile?

Books: SORRY ANOTHER QUESTION

I assume they're in Sheth and thus the language looks like Thai. Since it's a pleasure hub, would the characters be able to find books in their language, or get them translated, or? Are they SOL in the library/book stores?

Question about those with Palai characters, will they be allowed to go to school and gain credits through volunteer work like the rest of the PC?

Right now, all the Palai should be at the Older Children stage while (based on my calculations) should become teenagers by December 20.

It’s hard to put an answer on that without a specific example. Like, if you offer up something weird your character does, it CAN be confirmed as a crime or not. But there’s no bizarre, well-known law that’s set in place for comedic effect as of right now.

Yes to the stray animals! There would be stray animals, veterinary places, animal shelters and the like. If you can find it in an average city setting, it’s likely in Shehui — rats included.

When it. comes to schooling, it would be more in line with a Japanese style school level system, though the subjects and teaching styles would be more eclectic. More Montessori style classes and go-at-your-own-pace packet stuff.

They can take as many jobs as they can schedule! This also applies to professional work if it’s reasonable based on their time schedule. There’s no rule that says they can’t so it’s up to citizens to do whatever they can — or can’t — handle.

Military is something overlooked — there’s no military in Shehui but there are more security/guard-like jobs that are more in line with basic military training-required stuff. There’s also lower level patrol duty that can be accomplished, though actual patrol involving enforcing the rules and official reporting is done by long-term citizens.

Weapons are of course welcome! If they happen to be used for harm, however...[ominous piano music intensifies]

This is something that was supposed to be addressed but an airhead forgot to!!! Words written by actual people will be unreadable unless you can read the language in question, but there’s a technological filter on media that makes it accessible to all.

Anyone under 16 shouldn’t be drinking, although the credit fine for it isn’t that bad! It’s also not enforced unless it’s in public or causes a disturbance.

OK, so insofar as moving into a "profession" in three weeks, what would be the closest thing to military (or an upgrade from basic guard/security/patrol duties), open to a coven member at that time?
